Means-Based Scholarships 2023– Government-funded Scholarships

Government-funded means-based scholarships are either implemented by the state government or the central government. Top Class Education Scheme for SC Students

Top Class Education Scheme for SC Students is a national means-based scholarship that offers full financial assistance to SC students to promote quality education among them. A total of 1,700 scholarships are disbursed every year under this scholarship scheme. The scholarship application is online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Provider: Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India

Eligibility: The candidates who wish to apply must belong to the category of Scheduled Caste and should have taken admission in a full-time degree course in a recognised institution after securing a minimum of 60% in the Class 12 examination. Also, the annual family income of the applicant must not be more than ₹8,00,000 from all sources.

Award: The selected students studying in private sector institutions are liable to receive full tuition fees & non-refundable charges with a maximum ceiling of up to ₹2,00,000 per annum. Apart from them,  the students who are admitted into private sector flying clubs and pursuing courses like Commercial Pilot Training and Type Rating Courses will receive tuition fees and  other non-refundable charges with a maximum ceiling of up to ₹3,72,000 per annum. Besides this, students will also receive an academic allowance of ₹86,000 in the first year of study and ₹41,000 in every subsequent year, to take care of living expenses, books and stationery, computer/laptop with accessories like UPS and printer, etc. 

Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities

Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities is a government scholarship that offers financial assistance in the form of admission fees, tuition fees, and maintenance allowance to needy students belonging to minority communities. Minority communities of India include Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, and Zoroastrian/Parsi. The applicants who wish to apply for this scholarship can do so through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Buddy4Study - Education Loan

Eligibility: The candidates who wish to apply must be a student of class 1 to 10 from the minority community who has secured at least 50% marks in the previous final exam and whose annual family income is within  ₹1,00,000.

Department: Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India

Award: The selected candidates studying in Classes 6 to 10 receive an annual admission fee of ₹500 along with a monthly tuition fee of ₹350. Also, the students of Classes 1 to 10 (day scholars) receive a maintenance allowance of ₹100 per month, and class 6 to 10 students (hostellers) get ₹600 per month for a period of 10 months in an academic year.

Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities

The Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities is meant for students of Class 11 to PhD. Started with the objective of providing financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities Interested candidates can apply online for this national means-based scholarship through NSP.

Eligibility: The candidates who wish to apply must belong to a minority community (Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, and Zoroastrian/Parsi). Eligible candidates must be enrolled in Class 11, 12, graduation, post-graduation, technical or vocational courses, M.Phil., or Ph.D. programs, having achieved a minimum of 50% marks in their most recent final examination. Additionally, the annual family income of the candidate must not exceed ₹2,00,000.

The selected students studying in Classes 11 and 12 (hostellers & day scholars) will get admission and tuition fees of ₹7,000 per annum or ₹10,000 per annum if the students are pursuing technical or vocational courses in Class 11 & 12. UG and PG students are entitled to receive ₹3,000 per annum as admission and tuition fees. In addition to the fee benefits, the students will also receive a monthly maintenance allowance of up to ₹1,200 for a period of 10 months in an academic year.

Tuition Fees and Examination Fees to VJNT Students, Maharashtra

Tuition Fees and examination fees to VJNT Students scholarship is meant for those students of Maharashtra who belong to Vimukt Jati/Denotified or Nomadic Tribes, are financially deprived and are studying at the post-matriculation level. Interested candidates can apply online through MahaDBT, the online scholarship portal of the Maharashtra Government.

Eligibility: The candidates must belong to the VJNT category of Maharashtra. Their annual family income must be less than or equal to ₹8,00,000.

Award: Under this scholarship scheme, selected students will get reimbursement for compulsory fees such as tuition, admission, term, library, laboratory, gymkhana, and examination fees.

Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship

Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship is meant for girl students belonging to minority communities. The selected students receive tuition fee assistance and other benefits under this scholarship scheme. Interested candidates can apply online for the Begum Hazrat Mahal Scholarship through the official website of Maulana Azad Education Foundation.

Eligibility: Girl candidates who belong to Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi communities and studying in Classes 9 to 12 can apply for this scholarship. She must acquire at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the previous class. The annual family income must not exceed ₹2,00,000.

Department: Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF)

Award: The selected students of Class 9 and 10 will receive a scholarship of ₹5000, while those in Class 11 and 12 will receive ₹6,000.

Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST Students, Assam

Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST Students is meant to schedule caste students of Assam to improve their level of education with the objective of financially assisting the deprived students. Interested students can apply online for this means-based scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal.

Eligibility: The candidates must possess a domicile of Assam and fall within the ST category. They should be currently enrolled in Classes 1 to 8 at an institution recognised by the Assam Government. Additionally, the annual family income must not exceed ₹50,000.

Award: The selected students get a scholarship amount of up to ₹1,500 per annum for day scholars and ₹3,500 per annum for hostellers.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Post Matric Scholarship for EBC, Tripura

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Post Matric Scholarship for EBC is a means-based scholarship that offers financial assistance to economically backward Classes students of Tripura who are studying at the post-matriculation level. This scholarship can be applied online through the National Scholarship Portal.

Eligibility: The candidates must have a domicile in Tripura and belong to the Economically Backward Class (EBC) of the general category. The candidate must be studying in Class 11 to postdoctoral level at a government-recognised institution. Additionally, the annual family income must be less than ₹2,50,000.

Department: Government of Tripura

Award: The selected candidates will get a monthly maintenance allowance of up to ₹750 for a duration of 10 months along with the reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees. Additionally, an annual amount of up to ₹900 is given as study tour charges and up to ₹1,000 as thesis typing and printing charges. Blind students are entitled to get up to ₹175 per month as reader charges.

Post Matric Scholarship for ST/SC/OBC/SEBC/EBC Communities

Post Matric Scholarship for ST/SC/OBC/SEBC/EBC Communities is a means-based scholarship that offers financial assistance to needy students studying at the post-matriculation level. This scholarship can be applied online through the State Scholarship Portal, Government of Odisha. 

Eligibility: The candidates must be from the ST/SC/OBC/SEBC/EBC category and be permanent residents of Odisha. The annual family income of students belonging to the SC/ST category should not be more than ₹2,50,000. Those belonging to OBC/SEBC should have ₹1,00,000 as annual income and must have scored at least 50% marks in the previous exam. Students of the EBC (Economically-Backward Class category must not have more than ₹1,00,000 of annual income.

Award: The selected students will receive financial assistance to continue higher studies.

Special Scholarship Scheme Ishan Uday for NER

Ishan Uday is a means-based scholarship offered by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to the students of the northeast region to promote higher education and financial assistance. A total of 10,000 scholarships are disbursed every year among the NER students. Interested candidates can apply online for this scholarship through National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Eligibility: The candidates who wish to apply must have the domicile of the North-Eastern Region (NER), which includes Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura. They must have passed class 12 and secured admission in general degree, technical/professional courses of recognised colleges/universities/institutions. Additionally, annual family income must not exceed ₹4,50,000.

Department: University Grants Commission (UGC)

Award: Under this scholarship scheme, students pursuing general degree courses receive ₹5,400 per month and those pursuing technical/professional courses receive ₹7,800 per month.

Post Matric Scholarship to OBC Students, Maharashtra

This scholarship is an initiative by the VJNT, OBC, and SBC Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra for OBC students studying in Class 11 to PhD level and residing in Maharashtra. The selected students will receive variable awards.

Eligibility:  The candidates who wish to apply must be a resident of Maharashtra and belong to the OBC community. They should be pursuing studies at the post-matric level (Class 11 to PhD level) and must have secured admission through the CAP round if they have applied for a professional course. Additionally, their annual family income must be less than or equal to ₹1,00,000. The candidates are required to maintain 75% attendance for the current academic year.

Post Matric Scholarship to SBC Students, Maharashtra is an initiative by the VJNT, OBC, and SBC Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra for SBC category students who have completed Class 10 and are continuing studies at the post-matric level. The selected students will receive various awards.

Eligibility

The candidates who wish to apply must be a resident of Maharashtra and belong to the SBC community. They should be pursuing the education course at the post-matric level approved by the government and have secured admission through the CAP round if they have applied for a professional course. Additionally, their annual family income must be less than or equal to ₹1,50,000. The candidates are required to maintain 75% attendance for the current academic year.

Post-Matric Tuition Fee and Examination Fee (Freeship), Maharashtra is an initiative by the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, Government of Maharashtra for Class 10 passed students. The eligible student’s tuition fee and other compulsory fees will be covered under this scheme.

Eligibility: The candidates who wish to apply must be a resident of Maharashtra and belong to the Scheduled Caste or Neo-Buddhist community. They should be studying in Class 11 and above in a government-recognised institution of the state and have passed SSC or equivalent matric. Additionally, their annual family income must be less than or equal to ₹2,50,000.

Award: Tuition Fees, Exam Fees & other fees which are mandatory or compulsorily payable by the student to the institution are reimbursed to the concerned student.

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme Government of India

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme Government of India, Maharashtra is an initiative by the Maharashtra Government and Tribal Development Department, Government of India for Scheduled Tribe (ST) community students in Maharashtra. The scholarship encourages ST students from financially underprivileged backgrounds to pursue studies after Class 10 towards higher education.

Eligibility: The candidates who wish to apply must belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. They should have successfully completed Class 10. Additionally, their annual family income must be less than or equal to ₹2,50,000, and the candidate should not have a gap of more than 2 years in their formal education.

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Hostel Maintenance Allowance Scheme

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Hostel Maintenance Allowance Scheme is an initiative by the Directorate of Medical Education Research, Government of Maharashtra for students pursuing MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BPTH, BOTH, B.SC Nursing, BUMS, BP & O, BASLP courses in government-aided/corporation/private unaided colleges. The selected students will receive up to ₹30,000 per year.

Eligibility:

The candidates who wish to apply must be a resident of Maharashtra and have secured admission in government-aided, Corporation, or private un-aided colleges for courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BPTH, BOTH, B.Sc Nursing, BUMS, BP & O, BASLP. Furthermore, the applicant should belong to a family with an annual income of less than ₹8,00,000 and have been admitted under the General category or SEBC Category.

Award: 

The selected students will receive a hostel maintenance allowance of up to ₹30,000 per annum.

State Minority Scholarship Part II (DHE)

State Minority Scholarship Part II (DHE) is an initiative for graduation and postgraduation students. The selected students will receive a total annual course fee of ₹5,000 (whichever amount is less).

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must have a domicile of Maharashtra and hold a graduation or postgraduation degree in Arts/Commerce/Science/Law/Education. Additionally, they have an annual family income of up to ₹8,00,000

Award

The selected students will receive a total annual course fee of ₹5,000 (whichever amount is less).

Vocational Education Fee Reimbursement

Vocational Education Fee Reimbursement Maharashtra is an initiative by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra for Class 10 passed ST students. The selected students will receive tuition fees and exam fees for their courses.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must have a domicile in Maharashtra and belong to the ST community. They should be enrolled in a vocational study course like Engineering, Pharmacy, Animal Husbandry, Vaastu Shastra, Dairy Development, MBA or MCA. Additionally, they must have an annual family income of not more than ₹2,50,000.

The selected scholars will receive reimbursement of tuition fees and exam fees as per the approved college fee structure.

State Minority Scholarship for Pursuing Higher Professional Education Scholarship (Part -1)

State Minority Scholarship for Pursuing Higher Professional Education Scholarship (Part -1) is an initiative to provide financial aid to students belonging to minority communities to pursue professional or technical degree/diploma courses. The selected students will receive a total annual course fee of ₹50,000 per annum or tuition and exam fees (whichever is less).

Eligibility: To be eligible, the applicant must be a domicile of Maharashtra and belong to minority communities, including Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, and Jews. They should have successfully passed SSC from Maharashtra and secured admission in professional or technical diploma/degree courses through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP)/Institute Level. A bonafide certificate from the respective institution is required. Additionally, the applicant should have an annual family income of not more than ₹8,00,000.

Vocational Education Maintenance Allowance to ST Students

Vocational Education Maintenance Allowance to ST Students, Maharashtra is an initiative by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra for ST students in Maharashtra who are enrolled in vocational study courses. 

Eligibility: To be eligible, the applicant must belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community of Maharashtra. They should be enrolled in a vocational course at a recognised institution and have successfully passed the previous year’s examination. Additionally, should have an annual family income of less than or equal to ₹2,50,000.

Award :

The selected scholars will receive a maintenance allowance as specified hereunder:

  • For 4-5 Year Courses – ₹7,000 per annum to day-scholars and ₹10,000 per annum to hostellers
  • For 2-3 Year Courses – ₹5,000 per annum to day-scholars and ₹7,000 per annum to hostellers
  • For Courses of 2 years or less duration – ₹5,000 per annum to both day scholars and hostellers

Pursuing Higher and Professional Courses (DMER) Minority Scholarship

Pursuing Higher and Professional Courses (DMER) Minority Scholarship is an initiative to provide financial assistance to minority students pursuing specified health science courses affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik. The selected students will receive a scholarship amount of either the total annual course fee or ₹50,000, whichever is less.

Eligibility:  To be eligible, the candidate must be a domicile of Maharashtra and have taken admission in courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BPTH, BOTH, BASLP, BP&O, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing, BPMT, OPTHALMIC ASST., OPTOMETRY, PB BSc Nursing, and courses affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik through CET/competitive exam/HSC marks obtained. The annual family income should not exceed ₹8,00,000.

Vocational Training Fee Reimbursement for ST Students

Vocational Training Fee Reimbursement for ST Students, Maharashtra is an initiative by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra for students belonging to the Scheduled Tribe Category and admitted to the seats under the PPP scheme in Government ITIs and Private ITIs through the centralized admission process. 

Eligibility: To be eligible, the applicant must be a resident of Maharashtra, belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, and have secured admission to seats under the PPP scheme in Government ITIs and Private ITIs through the centralized admission process. Additionally, the applicant’s annual income should be above ₹2,50,000 but less than or up to ₹8,00,000.

Award :

The selected candidates will receive a 100 % reimbursement of the course fee. However, students who have passed the SSC examination and have a family income of less than or equal to ₹2,50,000 will receive benefits according to the guidelines set by the Government of India.

Dr Punjabrao Deshmukh Vasatigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna

Dr Punjabrao Deshmukh Vasatigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna, Maharashtra is an initiative by the Directorate of Higher Education, the Government of Maharashtra for students who are wards of registered labour/alpabhudharak (Marginal Land Holder) and who have taken admission in technical, professional or non-professional courses at graduation or post-graduation level. The selected students will receive up to ₹30,000 for 10 months as a scholarship amount.

Eligibility: To be eligible, the applicant must be a domicile of Maharashtra and a child of registered labour/alpabhudarak or both. They should have enrolled in Technical, Professional, and Non-Professional courses at the graduation or postgraduation level. The annual family income should be less than ₹8,00,000 for students pursuing professional courses and also less than ₹8,00,000 for those pursuing non-professional courses.

Dr Reddy’s Foundation Sashakt Scholarship is meant for those girl students who belong to rural, low socio-economic background, and who wish to pursue a career in Science. Launched with the objective of providing financial assistance, quality education, and mentorship, Dr Reddy’s Scholarship is for class 12 passed students. Eligibility: Girl students who have passed Class 12 and wish to get admitted into any of the colleges listed by the foundation.
