Objective of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship (SVMCM)

The primary objective of the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship (SVMCM) is to support meritorious students from economically backward families in continuing their education. It aims to enhance access to quality education for all, irrespective of their financial status. The scheme also intends to reduce dropout rates at critical stages of education by providing the necessary monetary support. 

Additionally, it promotes academic excellence by encouraging students to maintain high performance for scholarship renewal. The scholarship contributes to social upliftment and empowerment by enabling education across streams, including science, arts, commerce, engineering, and medicine.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship (SVMCM) – Eligibility Criteria

Students who are permanent residents of West Bengal can apply for Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship (SVMCM). Other relevant eligibility criteria include-

  • Students must have secured at least 60% marks in the last qualifying examination for Higher Secondary and Undergraduate courses.
  • A minimum of 53% marks is required for students applying to Postgraduate general courses.
  • Students applying for technical or engineering Postgraduate programs must have secured at least 55% marks.
  • The annual family income of the applicant must not exceed ₹2.5 lakh.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized educational institution located within West Bengal.
  • Students must not be recipients of any other government scholarship at the time of application.
  • Kanyashree K2* recipients are eligible to apply for the postgraduate scholarship under the special K3 component of the scheme.

*Kanyashree K2 is a scheme by the West Bengal Government that offers a one-time grant of ₹25,000 to unmarried girls aged 18–19 who are enrolled in higher education or vocational training. It supports girls from low-income families (annual income below ₹1.2 lakh) and promotes education and delaying early marriage. Applications are submitted through respective educational institutions.

Step 4: Select the ‘Application Type’ as ‘Fresh Application’ followed by selection of ‘Apply for Fresh’ option and click on the ‘Proceed’ button.

Note:- Applicants applying for Kanyashree scholarship are required to authenticate their previous Kanyashree details for registration under Kanyashree (K3) application.

Step 6: After clicking on the ‘Register’ button, an OTP will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number of the applicant. Applicants must enter the OTP in order to authenticate the verification procedure.

Step 7: After successful verification of mobile number, an ‘Applicant Id’ will be generated. The login credentials will be sent to the registered mobile number and an email containing the Applicant ID and a copy of registration slip will also be shared on the registered Email ID.

Step 1:  Interested applicants are advised to visit the official website of SVMCM Scholarship Scheme and click on the ‘Applicant Login’ option available in the right-hand corner of the dashboard.

SVMCM Renewal (Guidelines)

  • To be eligible for renewal, higher secondary and undergraduate students must score a minimum of 60% marks on average across all semesters, while postgraduate students must obtain at least 50% aggregate marks across both semesters.
  • The renewal application must be submitted within one month of admission to the next higher class after promotion.
  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate students must submit semester-wise marksheets as proof of academic performance, while MBBS students are required to submit professional examination marksheets, first one for the first renewal, 2nd for the second renewal, and 3rd (part 1) for the final renewal.
  • Bank details can be updated by the concerned Directorate in case of valid reasons, such as account closure or conversion of a minor account. Such changes require approval from the Head of Institution (HOI).
  • If an applicant needs to update their current course information—such as course name, institution name, or date of admission—they should contact the helpdesk. The helpdesk will assist in facilitating the necessary changes.

Applicants are required to upload below documents with their online application to apply for SVMCM scholarship –

  • Model Performa for Income Certificate
  • Admission Receipt 
  • Marksheet of last Board/Council/University/College Examination (both sides)
  • Scanned copy of bank passbook including the first page containing account number and IFSC code
  • Domicile certificate such as Aadhaar Card/Ration Card/Voter ID Card issued by the concerned authority 
  • The declaration of the Head of the Institution related the cause of the gap year. This option will appear only if the applicant selects the year of the qualifying  examination as 2023 or earlier in the process of registration. 
  • While uploading a scanned copy of image and signature, applicants are advised to maintain file format and file size as mentioned below.
    •  Image and signature format should be JPG/JPEG and size should be in between 20KB-50KB and 10KB-20KB respectively. 
  • After successful submission of application forms, ‘Scanned Supporting Document Upload’ form will appear. Applicants are advised to upload all necessary documents as mentioned in the form.
  • While uploading, applicants must ensure that the file is in PDF format and does not exceed 400KB in size.
