Ishan Uday – Objective
The primary objective of the Ishan Uday Scholarship is to enhance access to higher education for students from the North Eastern Region, which includes the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. Started from the academic year 2014-15, the Ishan Uday scholarship scheme aims to encourage higher studies among economically weaker students and increase the enrollment ratio in the North East Region. By providing financial assistance, the scheme aims to reduce the dropout rate and foster educational development in these states. The scholarship also promotes equal opportunities for all, irrespective of socio-economic backgrounds.
Ishan Uday – Eligibility Criteria
Ishan Uday scholarship can be applied by candidates from the North Eastern States of India. Find below the complete detail of Ishan Uday eligibility conditions.
- The applicants must have the domicile of the North-Eastern states which comprise Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
- The candidates’ annual family income must not be more than ₹4.5 lakh from all sources.
- The candidates must have passed class 12 or equivalent from a recognized board within the North Eastern Region.
- Also, the applicants must have secured admission in the 1st year of any degree course, including integrated courses, in any of the universities/colleges/institutes under Section 2(f) and 12 (B) of UGC Act, Deemed-to-be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC, State/Centrally-funded educational institutions, institutes of national repute and those institutes in which admission is made with AISHE code.
- Transgender students are also eligible to avail the benefits of Ishan Uday scholarship.
- Those students who are pursuing their studies through open universities are not eligible to apply for the Ishan Uday scholarship.
- Also, the candidates who have taken admission through the management quota or availing of any other scholarship or pursuing courses which do not lead to the award of a degree are not eligible for this scholarship.
Ishan Uday – Rewards
Ishan Uday scholarship for NER disburses a total of 10,000 scholarships at the rate of up to ₹8,000 per month every year to the selected students. The scholarship amount is paid to the selected candidates through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mode into their bank accounts. The number of scholarships allocated to each North Eastern State is done on the basis of the population of the respective State (as per the latest Census report). - The students who are pursuing general degree courses are eligible to avail of a scholarship amount of ₹5,400 per month till the completion of their courses.
- A monthly scholarship amount of ₹7,800 is given to those selected students who are pursuing technical/medical/professional/paramedical courses.

Applying for the Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme for the North Eastern Region 2024 involves several steps to ensure you meet all the criteria and submit a complete and accurate application. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you through the process:
Step 1: Registration on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
- Visit the NSP Website: Go to the National Scholarship Portal.
- Click on ‘Apply For One Time Registration (OTR)’

- A page of Guidelines for Registration on NSP will open.
- Read the guidelines carefully and click on ‘Next’ to proceed.

- Fill in your mobile number and click on OTP.
- Enter the OTP.
- Fill in the Captcha and click on Verify tab.
Complete the eKYC Update Option
- Select any of the 3 options
- If you have an Aadhaar card, enter the Aadhaar number and click on OTP.
- Enter the OTP, and fill in the captcha.
- Finally, click on Verify.
Step 2: Filling the Application Form
- Login to Your Account: Use your newly created user ID and password to log in to your NSP account.
- Application Form:

- Fill in the application form with personal details, academic qualifications, and family income information.
- Ensure all information is accurate and matches your supporting documents.
- Choose the Correct Category: Make sure to select the appropriate category of scholarship (general degree, technical, or professional course) based on your chosen field of study.
Step 3: Uploading Required Documents
Prepare digital copies (scanned) of the following documents before starting the upload process:
- Domicile Certificate: Issued by the competent authority of your state, proving you are a resident of one of the northeastern states.
- Class XII Mark Sheet: A copy of your Class XII or equivalent examination mark sheet.
- Family Income Certificate: Issued by the competent authority, stating that your family’s annual income does not exceed ₹4.5 lakh.
- Admission Receipt: A copy of the admission receipt or proof of enrollment in the first year of your undergraduate course from a recognized university or institute.
- Bank Passbook: A scanned copy of the first page of your bank passbook, showing your account details.
- Aadhaar Card or Valid ID Proof: A copy of your Aadhaar card or any other valid identity proof.
Upload each document in the prescribed format and size as mentioned on the NSP portal.

Ishan Uday – Renewal
For the continuation of the Ishan Uday scholarship in the subsequent years, the Ishan Uday scholars need to fulfil the criteria mentioned below.
- The students applying for renewal must get promoted to the next class/level/semester.
- The awardees must display exemplary conduct and maintain the prescribed attendance in order to get their scholarships renewed for the next year.
