Sikkim Scholarship 2025 – State Government Sponsored Schemes

Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship Scheme (HCMMSS):

  • The HCMMS Scheme provides free education for talented students from underprivileged families in reputed public schools (within and outside Sikkim).
  • Eligibility: Local students between 11 to 12.5 years old, studying in government schools in Class I to V) having secured 1st rank in Class V annual exams.
  • Selection is based on a test conducted by the HRD Department.
  • Selected students are admitted to the Public Schools empanelled with HRD Department within and outside the State.
  • Extended Support: The State Government of Sikkim has extended this scheme up to graduation level.

Cash Awards for Local Student Toppers in CBSE:

Class XII CBSE 1st, 2nd and 3rd State toppers are given cash awards in Science, Arts, Commerce and Vocational Stream respectively.

  • 1st: ₹50,000
  • 2nd: ₹35,000
  • 3rd: ₹25,000

Class X CBSE 1st, 2nd and 3rd State toppers are given the following cash awards:

Prerna & Merit Scholarship:

  • Merit Scholarship is provided to the students of government schools who secure 1st, 2nd & 3rd position in Class V open competitive examination that is conducted by the HRD Department at the sub-divisional level and Class VIII annual examination at the district level.
  • Based on the merit list, the next three girl students are selected for Prerna Scholarship at the Sub-Divisional and District Level respectively.
  • Scholarship Granted Annually: ₹600 to ₹1,200 (Class V) and ₹700 to ₹1,500 (Class VIII)  

Post-Matric Scholarship:

The Post Matric Scholarship is granted to all local students under merit and general category pursuing various courses within and outside the state. Its online application will start from September to December every year. 

Merit Scholarship

  • Scholarship ranging from ₹1600 to ₹2000 p.m. is awarded to students securing 80% and above marks in Class XII Board Examination or equivalent in a single sitting. 
  • Annual reimbursement of maximum ₹10,000 is awarded to some of the notified subjects precisely laid down  and the percentage is calculated from the scores of English and three main subjects.

General Scholarship

  • All local students securing less than 80% but more than 60% marks in a single sitting (70% in case of some specified Honours subjects) are granted scholarships in select notified courses. 
  • It is subject to parents’ combined income of less than ₹10,000 per month. 
  • Annual reimbursement of maximum ₹10,000 is awarded to some of the notified subjects precisely laid down in the notification.

Diploma Scholarship

  • A scholarship of ₹800 p.m. is awarded under merit category (80%) and also under General category (60%)   on submission of parents combined income of less than ₹10,000 per month

Fellowship Grant for M.Phil & PhD Scholars

A scholarship is awarded to students for pursuing PhD courses. It is as under:

  • ₹6000 p.m. for regular candidates with subject related to the State of Sikkim with a contingency grant of ₹15,000 per annum for a maximum period of three years 
  • ₹3,000 p.m. for in-service candidates with reimbursement of ₹12,000 per annum.

The North East Council (NEC)

The North East Council, Shillong provides grants to the students of north-eastern states through the state government. The assistance is provided for diploma, degree, postgraduation, M.Phil and PhD courses.

  • Grant of Financial Assistance to local students admitted in Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun.
