National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2024 is a digital gateway for different government scholarship schemes offered by  Central Government, State Governments and other government agencies like UGC and AICTE. It is a one-stop platform for students who are interested in applying for various educational schemes and scholarship services.  The portal looks after end to end implementation of the scholarship schemes and their disbursement as well. 

Scholarship Registration and Login

The National Scholarship Portal hosts 118 scholarship schemes worth hundreds of crores for the scholarship seekers registered on the platform. It is taken as a ‘Mission Mode Project’ under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). As per the data released for the academic year 2023, NSP has helped the government implement and disburse scholarships worth more than ₹2,800 crores (₹2875.50 to be precise). The platform boasts more than 127 lakh applications out of which over 84 Lakh applications are verified.

What is the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)?

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is one of the most prominent scholarship portals launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. It offers various scholarship schemes to SC/ ST/ OBC/ Minority and General category students. NSP ensures timely disbursement of scholarships to students and avoids duplication in processing. 

Its main aim is to create a transparent database of scholars and ensure that the scholarships are disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to eligible students.

Why was the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) Created?

The National Scholarship Portal was started by the Indian government under the National e-Governance initiative to ensure a smooth and proper flow of funds directly to the bank accounts of students without any hindrance. The key objectives behind the creation of this National Scholarship Portal include –

  • Ensuring the application of DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer)
  • Avoiding duplication that occurs while processing the applications
  • Offering the students, a common platform for both Central and State Government scholarships
  • Harmonizing the variety of scholarships and their norms

How to Check NSP Application Status?

After applying to the national scholarship portal for a particular scholarship, candidates can check their respective application status’ following the below-mentioned steps.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) – Key Documents 

While applying for any scholarship on NSP, the students are required to upload certain documents to complete the application process. However, for the scholarship amount of less than ₹50,000, the students are not required to upload any document. They need to submit a copy of the documents to their respective schools/colleges/institute. 

For all other scholarships, the students should keep the following documents ready:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Bank Passbook
  • Educational documents
  • Domicile Certificate (as specified in the respective scholarship guidelines)
  • Income Certificate (as specified in the respective scholarship guidelines)
  • Caste Certificate (if the candidate belongs to a special category)
  • Bonafide student certificate from school/institute (if the institute/school is different from the domicile state of the applicant)
  • Self-declaration certificate
  • Photograph of the candidate
  • Candidate’s mobile number

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a prominent statutory body of the Indian government functioning under MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development). Set up with an objective to coordinate, it determines and maintains the standard of higher education in India. Being an authoritative body, it offers recognition to universities across India and provides them with the required funds. National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2024 – AICTE Schemes

AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) functions under the Department of Higher Education, MHRD  and is regarded as the national-level council for technical education and a statutory body. AICTE has been operating since 1945 and looking after the coordinated development and proper planning for both technical as well as management education systems in India. 

AICTE also offers several scholarships apart from approving postgraduate and undergraduate programs under specified categories. It also ensures students receive funds on time so that financial constraints do not become a blocking stone in their professional careers.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2024 – State Schemes

Similar to the scholarship schemes from the central government,  the state governments also offer scholarships for students who are domiciles of that respective state. Even though many state governments offer funds to students from their own scholarship portal, a few prefer inviting applications through the National Scholarship Portal.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2024 – How to Apply?

To avail of various scholarships and help students apply for them, one needs to register on NSP. Students must know how to apply through the scholarship portal. 

However, before applying for a scholarship, the students need to make sure that their current educational institution is registered on the portal. If the institution is not registered on the portal, the student will not be able to apply for any scholarship. The portal also has the provision for the institutions to register themselves, if not already registered. 

Candidates must follow the below steps to apply for an NSP scholarship through the national scholarship portal.

Step 1: Searching for the Institute

  • Click on the ‘Registered Institutes on NSP button.
  • Fill in the required details and get the institution list.
  • If the institution is not registered, the candidates can request their institutions to register on the portal by clicking here.

Step 2: Registering with National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

  • All fresh users need to visit the Home Page of the National Scholarship Portal to register.
  • Click on ‘Apply For One Time Registration (OTR)

For new users, click on Register Yourself

  • A page of Guidelines for Registration on NSP will open.
  • Go through the guidelines carefully.
  • Click on ‘Next’ to proceed.

  • Fill in your mobile number and click on OTP.
  • Enter the OTP.
  • Fill in the Captcha and click on Verify tab.

Step 3: Complete the eKYC Update Option

  • Select any of the 3 options
  • If you have an Aadhaar card, enter the Aadhaar number and click on OTP.
  • Enter the OTP, and fill in the captcha.
  • Finally, click on Verify.

  • The process will be same for ‘Aadhaar not assigned (I have EID)’ option and Aadhaar not assigned (I have EID)’ option.
  • Fill in the asked details.

  • After completing all the details and selecting the VERIFY option from any of the three choices above, you will be able to enter your basic information.

Step 4: Completing the Registration Process

Once you complete all the steps till eKYC update, the registration will be complete and you will be able to see the Success page with the registration number.

Step 5: Logging in at National Scholarship Portal

  • Click on the login tab.

  • Enter the application ID and password received on the registered number.
  • Once you successfully log in, you will be able to view the confirmation Pop-up.

Step 6: Begin with The Application Process

  • After logging in, Click on the Apply Fresh option to apply for a scholarship opportunity. 

  • Go through the guidelines, accept the disclaimer and finally click on “I Agree”.

  • You can continue with your application after clicking the ‘I Agree’ button.
  • Fill in the details carefully and click on Submit.

  • Once the application is submitted from Apply Fresh, it will be available on the My Applications Listing Page.
  • Click on the Proceed tab to complete the application process

Step 7: Fill in the Application

  • Fill in all registration details, academic details and other necessary details as per the below mandatory sections:
    • General Information
    • Academic Details
    • Application Specific
    • Scheme Available
    • Scheme Specific Details
    • Upload Document(s)
  • Click on ‘Next’ after completing every section.
  • Once confirmed, click on the ‘Final Submit’ tab.

  • Once applications are submitted, they cannot be edited. Therefore, applicants are advised to carefully review their information before clicking on the final submission, as no changes will be allowed afterward.

  • A confirmation pop-up will appear after the application submission.

 

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2024 – Key Services

Besides applying for a scholarship, the portal also provides several other services for both the students and the institutions. A user can explore all the services offered through the NSP portal under the ‘Services Section’. The key services listed under this section include –

1. NSP 2.0 User Manual – To acquaint the users with the workflow on NSP. The students will get to know the detailed registration and application process.

2. Scheme Eligibility – Under this section, the students can filter out the scholarship schemes based on their specific requirements. They are required to fill their domicile state/UT, course level, religion, caste/category, gender, annual income of parents, disability status, and captcha code.

3. List of Ministry Coordinators

4. Scheme-wise State Nodal Officers – Under this section, the students can browse the list of state nodal officers based on the scheme they want to apply for. For example, if they are applying for a UGC scheme, they can check the details of state nodal officers under the ‘UGC’ section.

5. Know the AISHE Code – This service allows the students to check the AISHE codes of schools/colleges/institutions registered on NSP by simply providing the institution type, state, district (not mandatory) and university type (not mandatory).

Considering the advent of mobile technology, the Government of India has launched its ‘National Scholarship Portal Mobile App’ in the year 2018. The introduction of this facility aims to make the scholarship application easier and more convenient for the students.

The students can download and install the mobile app through the Google Play Store on their respective mobile devices. Also, there is an availability of the NSP mobile app in the ‘UMANG’ app launched by the government earlier. So, if they already have the UMANG app installed on their mobile devices, they can start applying for the scholarships too by registering at the NSP mobile app.
