What is the National Scholarship Portal 2026?

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a transformative initiative under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). This platform efficiently manages scholarship applications and disbursement, using a SMART system: Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive, and Transparent, to ensure quick fund delivery to beneficiaries’ accounts, eliminating leakage.

NSP 2026 – How Can Students Benefit from It?

Now that you are aware of why the National Scholarship Portal was created. Here’s how you can make the most out of this portal:

1. Check Eligibility: Students can quickly check which scholarships they qualify for based on their class, category, income, and state. This saves time and ensures they apply only for suitable schemes.

2. Registration: Using the NSP OTR process, students can create their profile once and use the same credentials for all future scholarship applications.

Career Assessment Test

3. Submit Applications: Enjoy a hassle-free online application submission process. The portal allows students to fill forms, upload documents, and submit applications online without visiting any office.

4. Track Your Application: After submission, the authorities will verify your online application. NSP lets students monitor their scholarship status at every stage, from institute verification to final approval.

5. Receive Payment: If your application is successfully verified, the scholarship amount will be directly credited to your account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). You can also check the current status of the NSP scholarship payment on the portal.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) Eligibility Criteria

NSP scholarships eligibility criteria differ from one scheme to another, but many of them share common requirements. These criteria help students understand whether they qualify before applying. NSP covers scholarships from Class 1 to Ph.D. level, and eligibility is usually based on income, academic performance, category, and documents.

1. Educational Level: Students from Class 1 to Ph.D. can apply, depending on the specific scholarship.

4. Category-Based Eligibility: Schemes may be reserved for SC, ST, OBC, Minority, or PwD students.

5. Aadhaar & Bank Account: Students generally need an Aadhaar-linked bank account for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

6. Recognized Institution: The student must be enrolled in a recognized school, college, or university registered on NSP.

7. Renewal Requirements: Renewal applicants must show satisfactory academic progress and have received the scholarship last year.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) – How to Do One Time Registration (OTR)?

One Time Registration (OTR) generates a unique 14-digit number linked to your Aadhaar. It is valid for your entire academic career, so you register only once and reuse the same number every year. Students must know that it is mandatory to do OTR before applying for any NSP scholarship. Follow these steps to complete your OTR:

1. Download the ‘NSP OTR’ app and the ‘AadhaarFaceRD’ app from the Google Play Store on an Android phone. You can also begin from scholarships.gov.in by clicking ‘Apply for One Time Registration (OTR)’.

2. Open the app, allow the required permissions, and read the registration guidelines.

3. Enter your Aadhaar number or Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID).

4. Verify the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and enter the captcha.

5. Complete e-KYC through face authentication. Sit in a well-lit space with a plain background and ensure your Aadhaar biometrics are unlocked in the mAadhaar app.

6. Fill in the basic details requested, such as parents’ names and email ID. Several fields are auto-fetched from your Aadhaar record.

7. Create a strong password and submit the form.

8. Receive your unique 14-digit OTR number via SMS and email. Save it carefully, as it serves as your permanent User ID for all future logins and applications on the portal.
