PFMS Scholarship 2025 – Check Status, Amount, Eligibility & Online Application Process

PFMS Scholarships 2025 include centrally-sponsored schemes, central sector schemes, and various benefits designed for different segments of society. The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) is a comprehensive, web-based platform that delivers end-to-end financial management services to all stakeholders. Developed and implemented by the Office of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, PFMS aims to ensure transparency and efficiency in fund management. The primary objective of PFMS is to track the disbursement of funds across all Government of India schemes and provide real-time reporting of expenditures at every stage of program implementation. The system facilitates payments and exchequer control, enables Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), monitors fund flow mechanisms, manages accounting of tax and non-tax receipts, compiles accounts, prepares fiscal reports, and disseminates crucial financial information.

What’s New in PFMS 2025?

  • Instead of sending money in advance and keeping it parked with banks, funds will be released only when they are actually needed. This means less idle money sitting in banks.
  • Currently, money is sent out beforehand to different agencies. In the new system, money will be sent only when the agencies ask for it by giving payment instructions.
  • Also, instead of counting the released funds immediately as expenses, the money will be recorded as transfers first. The actual spending will be reported later by the agencies when they use the funds.

PFMS Scholarship 2025 – About PFMS Portal

Started in the year 2009, the CPSMS or PFMS portal was initially intended to monitor four flagship schemes of the Government of India. However, it was linked to the financial networks of Central/State Governments and agencies of state governments at a later stage. Furthermore, the Government of India announced the DBT scheme in 2013 which was meant to be implemented through the PFMS portal.

Under the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) scheme, the payments for scholarships, pensions and other social welfare schemes were directly transferred to the ultimate beneficiaries through PFMS (Aadhaar enabled or via NEFT). This, in turn, allows the students to track their payment status online.

The schemes for which payment status can be availed through the PFMS portal are broadly categorized into two categories namely –

  1. Centrally-sponsored schemes
  2. Central sector schemes

PFMS Scholarship 2025 – Central Sector Schemes

The Central Sector Schemes are those schemes, which are 100% funded by the Central Government and are implemented through a central government agency. For example – The scholarship schemes are implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). These scholarships can also be broadly termed PFMS Scholarships.

PFMS Scholarship 2025 – Centrally-Sponsored Schemes (CSS)

Unlike the Central Sector Schemes which are 100% funded by the Central Government, the centrally-sponsored schemes include those schemes wherein a percentage of funding is borne by the State Governments. These schemes are implemented through the State Government. For example, the scholarships that are listed under the state schemes section on the NSP portal.
