PFMS Scholarship 2022 – List of Scholarships, Tracking Payment Status

PFMS Scholarship – PFMS (Public Finance Management System), formerly known as CPSMS (Central Plan Scheme Monitoring System), is a distinctive web-based application to monitor the programs/schemes offered by the government in the social sector and track the disbursement of funds. It allows the students to track the payment status of all centrally-sponsored schemes and central sector schemes for which the payment is made through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer Mode). The portal also enlists information on some of the scholarship schemes.

Which scholarships are listed on PFMS? What is the difference between centrally-sponsored and central sector schemes? How can students track their scholarship payment status? Get answers to all these questions in detail in this article.

PFMS Scholarship – About PFMS Portal

Started in the year 2008-09, the CPSMS or PFMS portal was initially intended to monitor four flagship schemes of the Government of India namely, MGNREGS, PMGSY, NRHM and SSA in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Bihar and Punjab. However, it was linked to the financial networks of Central/State Governments and agencies of state governments at a later stage. Furthermore, the Government of India announced the DBT scheme in 2013 which was meant to be implemented through the PFMS portal.

Under the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) scheme, the payments for scholarships, pensions and other social welfare schemes were directly transferred to the ultimate beneficiaries through PFMS (Aadhaar enabled or via NEFT). This, in turn, allows the students to track their payment status online.

The schemes for which payment status can be availed through the PFMS portal are broadly categorized into two categories namely –

  1. Centrally-sponsored schemes
  2. Central sector schemes

PFMS Scholarship – Central Sector Schemes

The Central Sector Schemes are those schemes, which are 100% funded by the Central Government and are implemented through a central government agency. For example – The scholarship schemes are implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). These scholarships can also be broadly termed PFMS Scholarships.

PFMS Scholarship – Centrally-Sponsored Schemes (CSS)

Unlike the Central Sector Schemes which are 100% funded by the Central Government, the centrally-sponsored schemes include those schemes wherein a percentage of funding is borne by the State Governments. These schemes are implemented through the State Government. For example, the scholarships that are listed under the state schemes section on the NSP portal.
