Meghalaya Scholarships 2025 – Important Dates, List of Scholarships & How to Apply

The application for Meghalaya scholarships has started with the deadline being October 31, 2025, for most of the centre-sponsored Meghalaya scholarships, including Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College & University Students and NEC Merit Scholarships. 

Additionally, this year the Government of Meghalaya has also launched the Chief Ministers’s Scholarship Scheme (CMSS) 2025. The application for CMSS opened on September 1, 2025, offering ₹6,000 per year to all eligible students from Class XI up to PhD, domiciled in Meghalaya, with no income ceiling.

With benefits credited directly to Aadhar-seeded bank accounts, each of these scholarships provide critical financial support to Meghalaya’s student community, covering maintenance allowances, tuition fee reimbursements, book grants, and so much more.

Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (CMSS)

Eligibility Criteria 

• Need domicile for Meghalaya.
• Students from class XI up to PhD can apply.
• Students pursuing a part-time or correspondence degree are not eligible to apply for this scheme.
• Valid bank account, mobile number, and email are required.
• No income ceiling notified.

Benefits 

• Annual scholarship of ₹ 6,000.

Pre-Matric Scholarships for ST Students

Eligibility Criteria

• Need domicile for Meghalaya.
• Students must belong to ST
• Students must be enrolled in recognized schools/colleges (Pre-Matric: Classes IX–X)
• income ceiling:  ₹ 2.50 Lakhs per annum.

Benefits

• ₹ 2,250 per annum for day scholars and ₹ 5,250 for hostellers for a scholarship for 10 months.
• Books and hoc grant of ₹ 750 per annum for day scholars and ₹ 1,000 for hostellers.
• Students with disabilities will receive an additional monthly grant of ₹ 800, if they are hostellers, and ₹ 600, if they are day scholars. 

Post-Matric Scholarships for SC Students

Eligibility Criteria

• The student must be an Indian national.
• Hold a domicile of Meghalaya.
• The student must belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
• The student must have completed high school (Class 10) or higher secondary with a passing grade from a recognised University or Board of Education.
• The annual family income of the student should be less than ₹ 2.50 Lakhs.

Benefits 

• For Degree and postgraduate-level professional courses – ₹ 13,500 per annum for hostellers and ₹ 7,000 per annum for day scholars.
• For Other Professional courses leading to a degree, diploma, or certification – ₹ 9,500 per annum for hostellers and ₹ 6,500 per annum for day scholars.
• For Graduate and postgraduate courses that are not covered under Groups 1 & 2 – ₹ 6,000 per annum for hostellers and ₹ 3,000 per annum for day scholars.
• For All post-matriculation non-degree courses – ₹ 4,000 per annum for hostellers and ₹ 2,500 per annum for day scholars.

NEC Merit Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be a permanent resident of Meghalaya.
• Students must be enrolled in a diploma, degree or postgraduate course or be registered in an M.Phil. or Ph.D. program.
• Students must have passed the required qualifying examination (HSLC/HSSLC/Secondary School Leaving/Senior Secondary Leaving Certificate) from a recognised state/central board (for diploma courses).
• Must have scored a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examinations.
• The annual family income of the student must not exceed ₹ 8 Lakhs from all sources

Benefits

• For diploma-level courses: ₹20,000 per annum
• For degree-level courses: ₹22,000 per annum
• For PG courses: ₹25,000 per annum
• For M.Phil/Ph.D. degree: ₹30,000 per annum

Post-Matric Scholarship for Minority Students

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be a permanent resident of Meghalaya.
• Students from class XI to PhD are eligible.
• Students must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examinations.
• The annual family income of the student must not exceed ₹ 2 Lakhs from all sources.

Benefits

• For classes XI to XII – ₹ 7,000 per annum for both hostellers and day scholars + maintenance allowance of ₹ 140 to ₹ 235 per month.
• For Technical and Vocational courses – ₹10,000 per annum for both hostellers and day scholars + maintenance allowance of ₹ 140 to ₹ 235 per month.
• For UG and PG courses – ₹3,000 per annum  for both hostellers and day scholars + maintenance allowance of ₹ 185 to ₹ 355 per month.
• For M.Phil/Ph.D. degree – ₹ 330 to ₹ 510 maintenance allowance.

Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minority Students

Eligibility Criteria

• Students from class I to X are eligible.
• Students must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in their last examination.
• The annual family income of the student must not exceed ₹ 1 Lakh from all sources.

Benefits

• Admission fee for classes VI to X – ₹ 500 per annum for both hostellers and day scholars + maintenance allowance of ₹ 600 per month for hosteller and ₹ 100 per month for day scholar for 10 months.
• Tuition fee for classes VI to X – ₹ 350 per annum for both hostellers and day scholars + maintenance allowance of ₹ 600 per month for hosteller and ₹ 100 per month for day scholar for 10 months.
• For classes I – V – ₹ 100 per annum  for day scholars.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional & Technical Courses (Minorities)

Eligibility Criteria

• The student must belong to Minority communities (Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain, and Parsis/Zoroastrians)
• Students pursuing technical or professional courses at the undergraduate or postgraduate level are eligible.
• The student must have secured at least 50% marks at Higher Secondary or Graduate Level.
• The annual family income of the student must not exceed ₹ 2.50 Lakhs from all sources

Benefits

• ₹ 20,000 per annum for both hostellers and day scholars + maintenance allowance of ₹ 10,000 per annum for hosteller and ₹ 5,000 per annum for day scholar for 10 months.

Border Areas Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria 

• Students coming from border area villages as notified by Border Area Development can apply for this scholarship.

Benefits

• ₹ 200 per month for students scoring first division in H.S.L.C examination.
• ₹ 100 per month for students scoring second division in H.S.L.C examination.
• ₹ 50 per month for students scoring third division in H.S.L.C examination.
• ₹ 300 per month for students pursuing B.A/B.Sc/B.Com.
• ₹ 400 per month for students pursuing M.A/M.Sc/M.Com.
• ₹ 500 per month for students pursuing Engineering/Technical/Agriculture courses.

Scholarship for Sainik Schools Primary School Merit Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

• Students coming from border area villages as notified by Border Area Development can apply for this scholarship.
• Students from classes I to XII are eligible for this scholarship.
• Admissions are done on merit; 7% seats are reserved for STs, 15% for SCs, and 25% for Children of Service Personnel including ex-servicement.

Benefits

• ₹ 20,000 for students with annual family income of less than ₹ 5,000 per month.
• ₹ 10,000 for students with annual family income between ₹ 5,000 to ₹ 8,000 per month.

Meghalaya Scholarships – How to Apply via Meghalaya One Portal?

Unlike other state-run and centre-run Meghalaya scholarships, the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme’s (CMSS) application is submitted via Meghalaya One portal.

Here’s a step-by-step guide, take a look –

1. Visit Meghalaya One portal (https://meghalayaone.gov.in/meghalaya-one).

2. Go to “Services” and select the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme.

3. Click on ‘Login to apply’. Login for renewal or click on ‘Register to new user’, if you’re applying for the first time through Meghalaya One.

4. Fill in the required details. Verify your mobile number/email with the OTP sent.

5. Once registered, login using your credentials. From the dashboard, go to Scholarship Services → CMSS 2025.

6. Click on “Apply Now”.

7. Now fill in the application form and upload all of the required documents.

8. Carefully review the submitted details, and click on “Submit”. Take a screenshot of the application/reference number.

Meghalaya Scholarships – How to Apply via National Scholarship Portal?

Majority of the state and centre sponsored scholarships require students to apply through the National Scholarship Portal.

Step-by-step guide to register on National Scholarship Portal 

1. All new users must visit the National Scholarship portal (https://scholarships.gov.in/).
2. Click on the dropdown tab on the top-left corner of the screen, and click on “Apply for Scholarship”.
3. Go to the Register tab and go through the guidelines for more clarity. Check all the boxes and click on “Next” to proceed.
4. Enter your mobile number and click on get OTP.
5. Now enter the OTP that you’ve received, fill in the captcha code, and click on “Verify”.
6. Fill in the Aadhar card number and click on the “Get OTP” option. Now enter the OTP and click on “Verify”.
7. Now fill in the personal details such as Mother’s name, Father’s name, email ID and others.
8. This will mark the completion of your registration process. Also, note down the temporary registration number and download the OTR mobile application for face authentication.

Step-by-Step guide to Apply for Scholarship on National Scholarship Portal 

1. Now that you’re a registered user. Login using your application ID and password. Upon logging in successfully, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Verify the OTP and change your password to continue.
2. Click on the dropdown tab on the top-left corner of the screen, and click on “Schemes on NSP”.
3. Now you will be redirected to a page where all the available scholarship schemes under NSP will be visible to you. For specific results, select “state – Meghalaya”.
4. A list of active scholarships will be visible to you.
5. Now, to apply for the scholarship, navigate to the menu and click on “Apply for Scholarships“.
6. Login using your valid login credentials.
7. Now click on the “Application Form” to start the application.
8. Fill in all registration details, academic details, and other basic details. Click on “Save & Continue”.
9. Enter contact details, scheme details, and upload necessary documents.
10. Click on “Save as Draft” 
11. Once you’ve confirmed that all of the information is correct, click on the “Final Submit” option.
