Meghalaya Scholarships – The Government of Meghalaya along with the Central Government provides different scholarships to the domiciled students of Meghalaya. Under these scholarship schemes, the Meghalaya students studying at pre and post-matriculation levels receive financial help to pursue an education at various stages of studies. Also known as the abode of clouds, Meghalaya boasts of some fine educational institutions like IIM Shillong and NIT Meghalaya. And, Meghalaya scholarships enable students to acquire education from these reputed institutions without worrying for financial hindrance.

Meghalaya Scholarships – Rewards

Each scholarship offers different rewards to students in the form of tuition/course fees, admission fees, maintenance allowance, etc. Find below the complete details about the benefits provided to students under the Meghalaya scholarship scheme.

Award Details of Meghalaya Scholarships

1. Umbrella Scheme for Education of ST Children – Pre-Matric Scholarship, Meghalaya Under this scholarship scheme, the selected students receive financial assistance.
2. Umbrella Scheme for Education of ST Children – Post Matric Scholarship, Meghalaya Under this scholarship scheme, the selected students receive financial assistance.
3. Meghalaya Border Areas Scholarship The selected candidates receive financial assistance in the form of grants or subsidies.
4. DBT-Research Associateship in Biotechnology and Applied Biology (North-East Region) Each of the selected fellows receives a stipend in the range of INR 36,000 to INR 40,000.

A research contingency grant of INR 50,000 per annum is also given to the host institution.

Career Assessment Test

A monthly fellowship of INR 28,000 is given to Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree students till the award of the degree.

Also, the candidates receive HRA and other benefits.

5. Special Scholarship Scheme Ishan Uday for NER Under this scholarship scheme, 10,000 scholarships are disbursed every year.

A monthly scholarship of INR 5,400 is given to students studying general degree courses.

A monthly scholarship amount of INR 7,800 is given to students pursuing technical/medical/professional/paramedical courses.

Also, the scholarship is renewed every year on the basis of the candidate’s performance, good conduct and maintenance of prescribed attendance.

6. Combined Counselling Board Scholarship (Meghalaya) Under this scholarship scheme, eligible candidates get a scholarship amount of INR 1 Lakh to INR 3 Lakh.

Meghalaya Scholarships – Eligibility

Each scholarship asks for different sets of eligibility criteria, some conditions may be the same while some of them vary. One of the eligibility conditions that is common in all the scholarships is that the applicants must belong to Meghalaya. Details about the eligibility criteria are highlighted below.

The candidate must be a regular, full-time student of class 9 or 10 in a recognised school.

The candidates must belong to the ST category.

2. Umbrella Scheme for Education of ST Children – Post Matric Scholarship, Meghalaya The applicants must have the domicile of Meghalaya.

The applicants must be studying in class 11 or above.

The applicants must have completed matriculation/ higher secondary/ any higher exam of a university.

The applicants must belong to the ST category.

3. Meghalaya Border Areas Scholarship The applicants must be permanent residents of Meghalaya in the Border Area.

The candidates must belong to the SC/ST community of Meghalaya.

The applicants must be studying a regular course in a recognised institution.

The applicants’ parents/guardians must be Indian citizens.

The candidates should not be employed in any service under the government of any non-government establishment.

The student applying for the scholarship must not be the repeater in the same class for more than one time.

4. DBT-Research Associateship in Biotechnology and Applied Biology (North-East Region) The applicants having the domicile of the North-Eastern Region are eligible for this scholarship.

The applicant must be a PhD degree holder (Science, Engineering), or MD or MS (Medicine) having research interest in Biotechnology and Life Sciences.

The academic record of the applicant must be good.

The applicant must be below the age of 40 years (45 years in case of women and in-service candidates).

5. Special Scholarship Scheme Ishan Uday for NER The candidates applying for this scholarship must have the domicile of the North-Eastern Region (NER).

The candidates must have passed class 12 or the equivalent exam.

The applicants must have secured admission in general degree, technical/professional courses of a recognised college/university/institution.

The annual family income must not exceed INR 4.5 Lakh.

6. Combined Counselling Board Scholarship (Meghalaya) The candidates studying at the college/university level (pursuing diploma level, degree level or PG level courses) are eligible to apply.

The candidates must have passed the last qualifying exam with at least 40% to 50% marks.
