PM – USPY SSSJKL Eligibility Criteria

Here’s a detailed eligibility criteria for the students applying for the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana – Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh:

  • The students should be permanent residents of the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. 
  • Students who qualify for the national-level tests like NEET, JEE, CLAT, etc. are also eligible to apply. 
  • Only those students who are willing to pursue their higher education from outside the union territories of J&K and Ladakh are eligible.
  • Students who’ve passed Class 12 examination from the JKBOSE or CBSE affiliated schools located in J&K and Ladakh are eligible.
  • Students seeking lateral entry admission must have passed a 10+3 diploma in engineering from polytechnic institutes recognized by the Board of Technical Education, J&K.  
  • The family income of a student should not be more than ₹ 8 lakh per year from all sources.
  • Students must fulfill the minimum age limit and criteria as prescribed by the Institution/University.

Note – The admission criteria for lateral entry students will be based on the no. of vacant seats available in the academic year 2024-25 for the Engineering stream only.

Who is Not Eligible to Apply for PMSSS? 

Career Assessment Test

The following students are not eligible to apply for the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme –

  • Students pursuing any diploma/post-graduate programme. 
  • Students who’ve not registered through the online AICTE portal. 
  • Students benefitting from any central/state/UT government schemes or any other scheme.
  • Students using the ‘Management Quota’ for getting enrolled.
  • Candidates whose family income exceeds 8 lakh per annum.
  • Students who’ve taken admission in colleges other than the prescribed AICTE-approved colleges.
  • Students seeking admissions through agents/NGOs.

Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K and Ladakh – Benefits

For Medical/BDS or equivalent 

  • Courses Covered – MBBS/B.D.S./BAMS and allied medicinal courses
  • No. of Scholarships – 100
  • Academic Fee Coverage – ₹ 3 Lakh per annum
  • Maintenance Allowance – ₹ 1 Lakh per annum

NoteThe scholarship amount covering the academic fees will be directly paid to the institution, whereas the maintenance allowance will be directly transferred to the bank account of the student, in 10  monthly installments of ₹ 10,000 each.

How to Apply for the PM USPY – Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh?

PMSSS applications are done through the AICTE SSSJKL portal. Here is the step-wise guide to apply for the scholarship:

Step 1: Go to the official AICTE SSSJKL portal.

Step 2: Register (create your student account)

  • Click on Registration for SSS J&K & Ladakh 2025-26 (choose HSC 10+2 or lateral entry–diploma as applicable).
  • Enter your details exactly as in your board records (AICTE provides board-specific roll-number prefixes in the manual).
  • Submit; you’ll get an email/SMS with a verification link to activate the account.

Step 3: Log in and fill personal, address, family & income, education sections; upload the required documents; preview and submit.

Step 4: After submission, print/download the application report.

Step 5: Visit a Facilitation-cum-Document Verification Centre (FDVC)

  • Find your nearest FDVC from the official list (Jammu/Kashmir/Ladakh divisions) on the AICTE SSSJKL page.
  • Take all original documents plus one self-attested photocopy set.
  • Get documents verified and collect your verification report copy.

Step 6: After verification, the choice filling window opens. Login on the portal, filter and add eligible colleges/courses shown in your list; arrange preferences and lock choices before the deadline.

Step 7: Check the provisional merit list in your portal and attend the online counselling.

Step 8: Confirm your seat using the portal buttons to Freeze (confirm) or Float/Surrender as per AICTE’s rules. (If you neither confirm nor act within time, the seat may be cancelled and offered to the next candidate.)

Step 9: Report to the allotted institute for admission with originals + one set of self-attested copies.

Step 10: Immediately after joining, upload the AICTE-prescribed Joining Report in your portal; your institute will verify it online.

Documents Required for PM – USPY SSSJKL 

While applying for the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, students might be required to submit the following documents –

  1. Passport size photograph (200 x 230 pixels – preferred)
  2. Scanned signature (140 x 60 pixels – preferred)
  3. Domicile certificate issued by UTs of J&K and Ladakh
  4. SSC marksheet
  5. Family income certificate (Issued by Tehsildar or equivalent)
