Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana or KVPY as it is popularly known has been in existence for 18 years now. The prestigious scholarship is offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and managed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Every year, applicants from class XI to 1st year of any undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (programs like B.Sc, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) apply for this scheme. In this post, we will talk about the KVPY registration process specifically including the process to apply, things to keep in mind when applying and the documentation required to apply.

What is the reward?
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana offers a handsome reward to successful applicants. Here are the highlights:
- During 1st – 3rd year of B.Sc, B.S., B.Stat, B.Math, Integrated M.Sc and M.S., students are entitled to a monthly stipend on INR 5,000 and an annual contingency grant of up to INR 20,000
- During 1st – 2nd year of M.Sc and 4th – 5th year of Integrated M.Sc/M.S., students are entitled to a monthly stipend on INR 7,000 and an annual contingency grant of up to INR 28,000
- Besides this, KVPY scholars also get to attend workshops in prestigious science-based academic institutions in India
KVPY Registration Process
Announcement of the scheme: KVPY is only announced in newspapers usually on the Technology Day (11 May) or the second Sunday of July in all leading national dailies.

Steps of KVPY registration
Registration: Registration is to be done online on the official KVPY website. The registration page looks like this:
Confirmation of registration: Once you register, you’ll get a confirmation message and your login details for the rest of the application process will be shared on email. Please ensure that the details you enter are marked correctly as you will not be able to make any change once the application is submitted. Email ID and mobile number are mandatory for registration. Please ensure that you use only your personal Email ID and mobile number, one that you have access to throughout the duration of the scheme ad KVPY will share all the details related to the scheme on these IDs.
Login: Once the registration is done, you’ll get an email from administrator@iisc.com with your login credentials i.e. your username and password. It is advised that you do not share this email with anyone and keep it safe with you as you’ll need these details to download your Hall Ticket/Admit Card from the KVPY website for the Aptitude Test.
Application form: The next step is to log in using the details provided to you. Once logged in, you’ll need to furnish and fill the following details: Personal Details, Academic Details, Uploading of Photograph, Signature and Other Required Documents.

Uploading Documents: Once you have filled in all these details correctly, you’re required to upload the following documents: Scanned copy of your photo (in JPG/JPEG format) of his/her recent Passport Size Photograph (less than 150 KB); Scanned copy of your signature (less than 80 KB). SC ST candidates are also required to submit a scanned copy of caste (SC and ST) and medical certificate (for PWD) in PDF format (less than 300 KB).
Payment: All KVPY applicants need to submit a one-time application fee of INR 1000 plus bank charges. For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the charges are INR 500 (Bank Charges extra). The accepted mode of payment is Credit Card, ATM-Debit Card or Net Banking. Please note that KVPY does not accept any form of cash payment. Candidates are advised to note down their transaction number for any future communication. Payments once made on the portal are non-refundable.
KVPY Aptitude Test
Once the application is duly submitted and the applicant has made the payment, KVPY will inform about the date and centre of examination for the Aptitude Test through SMS/Email. To prepare for the aptitude test, applicants can study all the past sample papers with their answer keys on the official website itself.
