New Delhi, 24 November 2021 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) would close the registration process for 4 UGC Scholarships 2021 on 30th November 2021. Fresh and renewal candidates who want to apply for various scholarships can apply online through the official site of the National Scholarship Portal at www.scholarships.gov.in.
UGC Scholarships 2021 – Important details
As per the official notice, the last date for verification of applications by institutions including re-submission of defective applications is 15th December 2021. The process will be completed by the eligible Institutions by 10th December 2021.
What are UGC Scholarships 2021-22?
The 4 scholarships offered by the UGC are:
- UGC Ishan Uday Special Scheme for North East Region
- Postgraduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders
- Postgraduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child
- Postgraduate SC, ST Scholarship Scheme
UGC Ishan Uday Scholarship
Ishan Uday is a special scholarship scheme, which is offered to students belonging to the North East Region (NER) of India. Interested students can apply for this scholarship by visiting the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Some features of the Ishan Uday scholarship include:
- This scholarship aims to provide equal opportunities to students of the North-Eastern states for higher studies
- It helps increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER)
- It focuses more on professional education in the region
- Number of scholarships: 10,000
- Scholarship Amount: INR 5,400 per month (General degree courses) & INR 7,800 per month (Technical, Medical, Professional, Paramedical courses)

UGC University Rank Holders Scholarship
The UGC University Rank Holders Scholarship is offered to students with outstanding performance at the undergraduate level, who are currently pursuing postgraduate education.
Some features of the university rank holder scholarship include:
- 1st and 2nd rank holders of a university, who have taken admission in a regular, full-time Master’s degree course in any recognized, deemed, private university, autonomous college or a postgraduate college can apply
- Professional and distance learning programmes are not covered under the scheme
- Number of scholarships: 3,000
- Scholarship Amount: INR 3,100 per month for 2 years, the duration of a PG course
UGC Single Girl Child Scholarship
The Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child was introduced to support the education of single girl children studying in postgraduate courses.
Some features of the single girl child scholarship include:
- Female students without a brother or who are twin daughters or fraternal daughters can apply for this scholarship scheme
- Number of scholarships: 3,000
- Scholarship Amount: INR 36,200 per year for two years, the full duration of a PG course

Postgraduate SC, ST Scholarship Scheme
PG ST, SC scholarship scheme is offered to students to provide financial help to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates so that they can pursue higher studies in professional courses.
Some features of the postgraduate SC, ST scholarship include:
- The candidate must be a first-year student studying a professional course at the postgraduate level during the current academic year
- M.A, M.Sc., M.Com, MSW and Mass Communication and Journalism programmes are not covered under this scholarship as they are treated as non-professional courses
- Number of scholarships: 1,000
- Scholarship Amount: INR 7,800 per month (ME, MTech courses) & INR 4,500 per month for other courses

To apply for the UGC scholarship 2021, students must follow the below-given steps:
1. Visit the official site of NSP – www.scholarships.gov.in
2. Click on the registration link available on the home page
3. When a new page opens, students will have to enter the login details or register themselves
4. Enter the details and scholarship scheme
5. Click on submit to complete the registration
6. Download the confirmation page once the process is complete and keep a hard copy of the same for further requirement
