About The Program

Centrally Sponsored Post-Matric Scholarship for SC Students, Chandigarh 2024-25 is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India and implemented by the Government of Chandigarh to provide financial assistance to SC category students of the state studying in Class 11 to Ph.D. level. The selected candidates will receive a monthly maintenance allowance of up to ₹1,200 and other benefits.

To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian national
  • be a domicile of Chandigarh
  • belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category
  • be studying at post-matriculation level (Class 11 and above) at a recognised institution by the government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education
  • have an annual family income of less than ₹2,50,000 from all sources
  • not be receiving any other centrally-funded pre-matric scholarship

Note:- 

  • The scholarships will be given for the study of post-matriculation/post-secondary courses, recognised by the concerned approving authority, pursued in the following category of institutions/universities/colleges:
    • All government institutes/colleges/universities
    • Institutions of National Importance
    • Central university/state university/autonomous colleges recognised by the UGC and universities/colleges recognised under section 2(f) and/or 12(b) of the UGC Act
    • Deemed universities
    • Private universities recognised by state/centre with ‘A’ level or equivalent accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) or National Board of Accreditation (NBA)
    • Private professional institutions affiliated with a recognised central/state university
    • Schools/colleges recognised by government/government-aided for Classes 11 and 12
    • Diploma-granting institutions as recognised by state/UT governments
    • Vocational training institute affiliated to the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT)
    • Institutions affiliated/approved by the appropriate bodies like MCI/AICTE or any regulatory body established by the state/centre as approving authority for a particular course.
Benefits

The selected scholars will receive the following benefits:-

a) Degree and postgraduate level courses including M. Phil., Ph.D. and Post Doctoral research in Medicine (Allopathic, Indian and other recognized systems of medicines), Engineering, Technology, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary & Allied Sciences, Management, Business Finance/Administration, Computer Science/Applications.

b) Commercial Pilot License (including helicopter pilot and multiengine rating) course

c) Postgraduate diploma courses in various branches of management & medicine.

d) C.A./I.C.W.A./C.S./I.C.F.A. etc.

e) M. Phil., Ph.D., and Postdoctoral Programmes (D. Litt., D.Sc., etc.):

  • In existing Group 2 courses
  • In existing Group 3 courses

f) L.L.M. degree

a) Graduate/postgraduate courses leading to degree, diploma, or certificate in areas like Pharmacy (B.Pharma.), Nursing (B.Nursing), L.L.B., B.F.S., other para-medical branches like rehabilitation, diagnostics etc., Mass Communication, Hotel Management & Catering, Travel/Tourism/Hospitality Management, Interior Decoration, Nutrition & Dietetics, Commercial Art, Financial Services (e.g. Banking, Insurance, Taxation, etc.) for which entrance qualification is minimum senior secondary (Class 12)

b) Postgraduate courses that are not covered under Group 1 (e.g. M.A./M.Sc./M.Com./ M. Ed./M. Pharma etc.)

Note:- Scholars who are entitled to free board and/or lodging will be paid a maintenance charge at 1/3rd of the rate for Hostellers.

Additional provision for SC category students with disabilities - 

1) Reader Allowance for Blind Students:-

2) Escort allowance of ₹ 160 per month for severely handicapped day scholar students with low extremity disability.

3) Special pay of ₹ 160 per month is admissible to any hostel employee willing to extend help to severely orthopedically handicapped students residing in the hostel of an educational institution, who may need the assistance of a helper.

4) Provision of transport allowance up to ₹ 160 per month for disabled students, if such students reside in the hostel, which is within the premises of the educational institution. The disability as per the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995 is defined as blindness, low-vision, leprosy-cured, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, mental retardation, and mental illness.

5) Allowance of ₹ 240 per month towards extra coaching to mentally retarded students.

6) Study tour charges up to a maximum of ₹ 1,600 per annum limited to the actual expenditure incurred by the student on transportation charges etc. will be paid to the scholars studying professional and technical courses provided that the head of the institution certifies that the study tour is essential for the scholar for completion of his/her course of study.

7) Thesis typing/printing charges up to a maximum of ₹ 1,600 will be paid to research scholars on the recommendation of the Head of the Institution.

8) An annual allowance of ₹1,200 will be provided for essential/prescribed books.

Provisions (3) and (4) will also apply to leprosy-cured students.

Note:-

  • Disabled students belonging to Scheduled Tribe covered under the scheme can also receive such additional benefits from other schemes which are not covered under this scheme.
  • The disability as defined under the said Act has to be certified by a competent medical authority of the state govt./UT administration.

The scholarship amount will be disbursed into the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the candidate through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method.

  • Fee receipt for the current academic year
  • Caste certificate issued by a competent authority
  • Scanned copy of the last academic year's marksheet/certificate
  • Hostel Certificate for Hosteller students
  • Disability Certificate issued by the competent authority designated District Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon of a Government Hospital (for disabled students)
  • A bonafide certificate from the Institute, uploaded on the portal

Note:- All the above documents should be scanned and uploaded on the National Scholarship Portal in PDF/JPEG format, with a file size of less than 200KB.

How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form. Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

  • The scholarship will be provided for studies in India only.
  • All children of the same parent/guardian can avail the benefits of this scholarship.
  • The income certificate will be taken only once, at the time of admission to the course.
  • Applicants are requested to fill out the application form online with accurate and verifiable details.
  • Funds provided under this scheme will not be utilized for any other purpose.
  • The scholarship continuation is subject to good conduct and a minimum of 75% of attendance every academic year.
  • The recipients of this scholarship cannot hold any other scholarship/stipend.
  • The recipient is liable to refund the scholarship amount if the student discontinues the study for which the scholarship was originally awarded.
  • The provisions of this scheme can be changed at any time at the discretion of the Government of India.   
  • Students domiciled in one State/UT but holding an SC certificate of another State/UT can avail the scholarship in the State/UT from which the ST certificate was issued.
  • The scholarship of a student will be cancelled in case of discontinuation of studies due to personal reasons or in case of false information provided in the online application.
