Uttar Pradesh (UP) has recently announced a new scholarship program aimed at all Sanskrit students across the state. The scholarship has been launched at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. Along with launching the new scholarship, the state government has also announced plans to bring back to life the residential Gurukul-style Sanskrit schools across UP.
In the event, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the potential of Sanskrit as a language for science and technical education, encouraging students to take it seriously. He said, “Advocating for Sanskrit is akin to advocating for humanity. Sanskrit is not just the “Dev- Vani”, but also a scientific language that can be applied to modern fields like computer science and artificial intelligence.”
According to the official data, only 300 Sanskrit students were eligible for scholarships earlier, wherein age restrictions would further limit the reach to the students. However, with this new scheme, the state is committed to extend the benefits to all eligible students. For this, more students need to open bank accounts so that the scholarship funds can directly be transferred to their account. Further to this, the state has initiated the disbursement of Rs 586 lakh scholarships to 69,195 students in the state.
Revival Plan of Gurukul Schools
With a vision to propel India to global leadership, the state government is determined to reintroduce the Gurukul education system across the state. The idea is to reignite the significance of Sanskrit language and its historic importance in Indian cultural heritage.
On one hand, the Gurukul institutions will offer employment to the qualified Acharayas, on the other, the model institutions will get additional support from the government, especially those offering free accommodations and meals for students.
