The aim of Namo Laxmi scholarship scheme is to reduce the dropout rates among girls in 9th and 10th classes and benefits over 1.1 million female students in the state. In terms of financial benefits, the girl students get Rs 500 per month for a period of 10 months. Additionally, they also get Rs 10,000 on clearing board examinations.
Objective – Self-reliance & Financial Independence
Furthermore, students from classes 11 and 12 are granted Rs 750 per month for 10 months and additional Rs 15,000 on clearing board examinations. Overall, girl students can receive up to Rs 50,000 over a period of four years, for supporting their education from classes 9 to 12. The objective of the scheme is to encourage girl students to pursue higher education and, in the future, become self-reliant and financially independent.
Furthermore, with financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month (To over 250,000 students) enrolled in 11 and 12th standards, the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana program aims to promotes science education among these students. The ultimate objective is to inspire enrollments in science streams to develop a skilled technical workforce that will eventually fulfil the growing demand of India’s manufacturing sector.
According to the official data, compared to last academic year 2023-24, nearly 6 percent increase in school enrollments has been witnessed for girl students in classes 9 to 12 in 2024-2025 under the Namo Laxmi scheme, while the Namo Saraswati program has resulted in around 10 percent increase in science streams enrollments from classes 11 to 12.
Furthermore, since June 2024, out of the total budget of Rs 1,250 crore, around Rs 157 crore has been disbursed for the Namo Laxmi scheme, while Rs 46 crore has been distributed out of Rs 250 crore budget for the Namo Saraswati scheme.
