Medical Scholarships – Eligibility Criteria and Awards
There are certain eligibility criteria that applicants need to fulfil in order to avail of the medical scholarships. But one condition applies to all the scholarships – the applicant must have taken Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) during their class 12 study. Find below more about the eligibility criteria required and awards for different scholarships listed below.
Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST Senior)
- 1st and 2nd year students of MBBS/BAMS/BHMS/BDS/Engineering or other courses and class 12 (Science stream) can apply under the category ‘Senior I’.
- 3rd and 4th year students can also apply under the ‘Senior II’ category.
Awards: Tuition fee with a maximum ceiling of INR 50,000
Note: Only students registered with bona fide degree at colleges/universities and appearing in the final exams of the current academic year can apply.
Bharati Scheme for Education (BSE), Andhra Pradesh
- The applicant and his/her parents must belong to the Brahmin community and the parents must be residing in Andhra Pradesh.
- Since students of classes 1 to PG are eligible for this scholarship, students pursuing medicine and allied courses at UG and PG levels can also apply.
- The applicant must have passed all the subjects till their previous year of study.
- The annual family income must not be more than INR 3,00,000.
- The applicant must not be availing of any other scholarship benefit, except the benefits from Archaka Welfare Trust.
Awards: Up to INR 20,000
Vijayalakshmi R.L. Jalappa Scholarship
- The applicant must be from the Arya Idiga community and be a resident of Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajnagara, Hassan, Chitradurga, Davanagere or Bellary districts.
- The candidate must be pursuing PUC, Diploma, ITI, any general degree, B.E., BVSC, B.Pharma, BHMS, BDS, MBBS, any master’s degree, MVSC or M.Pharma.
- The candidate must have scored 60% or above the cut-off percentage.
- All the family members of the applicant must be a holder of BPL cards, low-income farmers or agricultural labourers.
- The candidate must be a regular student.

- The applicant must be a domicile of Karnataka.
- The annual family income must not exceed INR 1 Lakh.

HDFC Educational Crisis Scholarship
- The applicants studying in classes 6 to 12 in government-aided or private schools can apply.
- The applicants pursuing undergraduate or post-graduate (full-time or part-time) degrees or diploma courses in colleges or universities recognized under AICTE/UGC/State/Central Government rules can apply.
- The applicants whose family is facing an unfortunate event/crisis which has occurred in the preceding two years are eligible.

Combined Counselling Board Scholarship (CCB)
- The applicant must be holding the required degree according to his/her course.
- The applicant must have scored at least 33% to 50% marks in the qualifying exam.

Padala Charitable Trust Scholarship
- The applicant must belong to the states of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana.
- The applicant’s prior or current education must be from a government school or college.
- The candidate must belong to a poor family with no resources to support his/her educational needs.
- The candidate must be pursuing medicine (MBBS) or other courses.
Awards: Financial assistance
International Medical Scholarship Eligibility Test (IM-SET)
- Students of class 12 studying in private/ government/ government-aided schools of any medium or boards in the Indian Territory can apply.
- Students studying outside India in CBSE-affiliated schools are also eligible.

All India Pre-medical Scholarship Test
- The candidate must have passed the final examination of 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum 60% score.
- The applicant must be an appearing class 12 student.
- The applicant must not be more than 26 years of age while applying for this test.

All India Youth Scholarship Entrance Examination (AIYSEE)
- Class 12 passed/appearing students are eligible to apply.

Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship
- The applicant must be having the domicile of West Bengal and studying in West Bengal to be eligible.
- The candidate at higher secondary and diploma level must have scored at least 75% marks in class 10 (excluding the optional subjects).
- The candidate at the UG level must have scored at least 75% marks in class 12 (including two language subjects on five subjects).
- The annual family income must not exceed INR 2.5 Lakh.
Awards: Up to INR 8,000 per month
Swami Dayanand Education Foundation Merit-cum-Means Scholarships
- The applicants must be pursuing the course of MBBS, Pharmacy, Engineering, IT or Architecture from a government or private institution in India.
- The students must have taken admission to the desired course after passing a competitive exam conducted by the Central/State board.
- The annual family income must not exceed INR 6 Lakh.
- The candidate must have scored at least 85% marks in class 12.
- The applicant must have scored a Grade Point Average of a minimum of 7.5 in 10 points scale system (for students in their 2nd or 3rd year of graduation programme).
- The applicant must not be the recipient of any other scholarship/financial assistance from any other source.
Awards: Up to INR 50,000 per annum
SHDF Scholarships
- Class 12 passed and graduate students can apply.
- The applicant must have scored a minimum of 60% marks in the previous two exams.
- The annual family income must not exceed INR 1.8 Lakh.
Awards: Up to INR 30,000
Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship (JBNSTS), West Bengal
- Only girl students are eligible for the scholarship.
- Applicants must have passed class 12 or equivalent exam and must be pursuing an undergraduate programme like medical/engineering/B.Sc. (Hons) (first year).
- The applicants’ institute must be registered in West Bengal.
Awards: INR 3000 per month apart from DST-INSPIRE scholarship of worth 80,000 per annum and annual book grant of INR 2000
L’Oréal India Scholarship
- Only female candidates are eligible for this scholarship.
- The applicant must have passed class 12 from the Science stream with at least 85% marks in /PCB.
- The applicant must have taken admission to the graduate programme in the current academic year.
- The applicant must not be more than 19 years of age.
- The annual family income must not be more than INR 4 Lakh.
- The applicant must be willing to pursue studies in Medical/ Engineering/ Science/ Biotechnology or any other scientific field.
Awards: INR 2,50,000 for the duration of the graduation
Nirankari Rajmata Scholarship Scheme
- The annual family income must not be more than INR 3.5 Lakh.
- The applicant must have scored a minimum of 90% marks in class 12.
- The candidate must be a regular student of a government-recognised institution/college to which he/she is admitted through a competitive written test.
- The applicant must be pursuing studies in disciplines like medicine/ engineering/ MBA/ CA-CPT/ CFA/ LLB/ Architecture.
Awards: Tuition fee up to INR 50,000 or actual tuition fee (whichever is less)
