KARepass or Karnataka Electronic Payment and Application System of Scholarships is an online portal which paves the way for smooth disbursement of post-matric scholarships to students possessing the domicile certificates of Karnataka. This portal is managed by the Department of Backward Classes  Welfare under the Government of Karnataka. The main motive which propels this platform is the upliftment of the financially-weaker candidates.  The post-matric scholarships available through KARepass are disbursed to the candidates belonging to the backward class sections of the society.

At KARepass, the system links treasury databases of Secondary Schools Leaving Certificate (SSLC), Colleges and Banks for smooth and credible disbursal of scholarships.

The KARepass portal provides various schemes offered by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare for underprivileged students pursuing different levels of education. Some of the prominent ones are listed below –

KARepass – Eligibility Criteria

As mentioned in the introduction of this article, KARepass scholarships are meant for the upliftment of economically weaker candidates belonging to the backward class of the society. Still, there are some general eligibility criteria which candidates must fulfill to reap the benefits of KARepass scholarships.

Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS)

  • Only those candidates who are pursuing studies at the post-matriculation level will be considered eligible for this scholarship.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should be less than INR 1.50 lakh for category 1, and less than INR 2 lakhs for category 2A, 3A and 3B.

Food & Accommodation Scholarship (FAAS)

  • Only those candidates who are pursuing studies at post-matric level in Government/Government-aided or Housing colleges will be considered eligible for this scholarship.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should be less than INR 2.50 lakh for category 1 and less than INR 5 lakh for categories 2A,3A and 3B.

Fee Concession Scheme (FCS)

  • Only those candidates who are pursuing post-graduate courses will be considered eligible for this scholarship.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should be less than INR 1 lakh for category 1 and INR 2.50 lakhs for categories 2A,3A and 3B.

Vidyasiri Scheme

  • Only those candidates who are pursuing studies at the post-matriculation level will be considered eligible for this scholarship.
  • Only OBC, SC and ST candidates are eligible for this scholarship scheme.
  • Candidates must have secured a minimum 90% in SSLC or in an equivalent exam.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should be less than INR 2.5 lakh for category 1 and less than INR 1 lakh for categories 2A, 3A and 3B.

KARepass – Incentive Amount for Various Scholarships

  • Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) –  Upto INR 3,500/annum.
  • Food & Accommodation Scholarship (FAAS) – Upto INR 1,500/month for 10 months.
  • Fee Concession Scheme (FCS) – Training fee, laboratory fee, sports fee and readers charge upto INR 1,750/annum.

KARepass – How to apply for scholarships?

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for scholarships at KARepass and also satisfy the above mentioned eligibility criteria must follow the directions mentioned below –

  • Visit the official website of KARepass (www.karepass.cgg.gov.in)
  • Scroll to the tab mentioning ‘Student Zone’; there, you can easily find the Application link (just under the Student Zone)
  • Click on the tab mentioning ‘registration/fresh registration’
  • Before proceeding further, candidates are advised to use their own personal ID and mobile number. This would be effective for better communication purposes in the future
  • Fill in the credentials in the application form
  • Proceed with uploading the requisite documents
  • Finally, click on the ‘Submit’ option and take a few print outs of the same

KARepass – What documents are required to be uploaded?

Following are the documents which are required to be uploaded by the applicant –

  • His/her aadhar card.
  • Parent’s aadhar card.
  • He/She must upload a verified caste certificate.
  • He/She must upload an “authenticated” income certificate. Any fraudulence with the same will lead to immediate discard of the application form.
  • He/She must submit a bank passbook.
  • He/She must also upload the residential certificate

The application number is the most crucial element which applicants must remember while logging into the official website of “KARepass”. This application number is the key to access all the relevant details regarding the status of the scholarship. However, even if you forget your application number you can easily search for it by following the below given steps –

  • Visit the official website of KARepass (www.karepass.cgg.gov.in).
  • On the home page, move the cursor to the ‘Student Services’ icon available at the top of the screen.
  • There, you will see the “Know your application number” link.
  • Fill in the required information such as SSLC Pass Type, Year of Passing, SSLC Examination number and Date of Birth.
  • Submit the information.
  • Your application number will appear on the screen.

After filling the application form, candidates can easily track their application status on the official website of KARepass. Follow the instructions given below –

  • There, you will see the application status link.
  • Fill in the required information such as Application Number, SSLC Pass Type, Year of Passing, SSLC Examination number and Date of Birth.

The Government of Karnataka has left no stone unturned in assisting the economically weak students through KARepass. The ePass not only helps the students with their tuition fee, expenses of books and other expenses but it also encourages the students by helping them with the hostel facilities. This facility is known as “KARepass Hostel Application”. You can easily check the real time status of your hostel application with the help of the following steps –

  • Visit the official website of KARepass (www.karepass.cgg.gov.in)
  • At the home page, move the cursor to the ‘Student Services’ icon available at the top of the screen.
  • There, you will see the Hostel application status link.
  • Fill in the required information such as Application Number and Date of Birth.
  • Submit the Information.
