Film and Theatre Scholarships – Inlaks Theatre Awards 2023

The Inlaks Theatre Awards 2023, an initiative of the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, aims to extend financial support to individuals who are seeking opportunities to enhance their skills in the field of theatre arts. 

Under this program, students can participate in training workshops, residencies, or any other activity they consider suitable, with a maximum duration of one year. 

Career Assessment Test

This award does not cover the payment of tuition fees for enrollment in a full-time theatre program at an educational institution.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must hold an Indian passport and have current residency in India.
  • The applicant’s date of birth must fall on or after January 1, 1988.
  • The applicant should be a recent graduate or postgraduate from an Indian Institute for Theatre Arts, India.
  • During the tenure of this award, the applicant must not be a recipient of any other government scholarship or award.

Benefits:

  • Allowance of ₹15,000 per month will be provided by the Foundation throughout the program’s duration, which should not exceed more than one year.
  • For short-term awards (Three Months or Less):
    • The award amount will be given upfront.
    • A certification letter from the mentor or institution is required to confirm the awardee’s participation and completion of the program.
  • For longer-term awards (Over Three Months):
    • Half of the award amount will be disbursed at the program’s commencement.
    • The second half will be paid midway through the award’s term, upon submission of a progress report from the applicant’s supervising institution, mentor, guide, or guru.

Vancouver Film School (VFS) is extending the 2023 International Talent Scholarship to talented individuals from specific regions worldwide to secure 10 full-tuition scholarships and 20 half-tuition scholarships for studies at Canada’s foremost institution for entertainment arts education.

Buddy4Study - Education Loan

The scholarship will be available to individuals demonstrating exceptional talent from the following four regions:

  • India
  • Mainland China
  • Europe/Australasia/Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
  • Asia-Pacific/Southeast Asia

Scholarship Details

For each program listed below, the following scholarships are available in each region:

Eligibility Criteria and Documents Required:

1. Applicants must be at least 19 years old or have graduated from high school at the time of application.

2. Candidates must provide the following documents as part of their application:

  • A clear copy of a government-issued photo ID indicating their legal name and date of birth.
  • If English is not the native language, candidates need to provide proof of proficiency in English, which can include any of the following:
    • TOEFL score of 550 (213 Computer-Based Test)
    • TOEIC score of 785
    • IELTS Band 6.5
    • LPI Level 5
    • A Duolingo English test score of 120 or higher is required for some programs.
    • For some programs, a B2 First (formerly Cambridge English: First or FCE) score of either Grade A or Grade C is required.

3. Transcripts from an English-speaking high school or an accredited English-speaking post-secondary institution. Transcripts can be in the native language.

4. Transcripts from any institution attended within the past five years. Transcripts can be in the native language.

5. Additionally, candidates are required to submit:

  • Two recommendation letters, preferably from instructors or academic advisors. These recommendation letters must be in English and include the contact information of the references.

Film and Theatre Scholarships – FTII Scholarships

The Film and Television Institute of India, Pune provides scholarships to deserving students enrolled in the three-year Diploma courses in Film and Television, as well as the one-year certificate course in Television. 

These scholarships are granted at the commencement of the academic year, considering the performance during the admission process, and subsequently, based on the outcomes of the annual examinations encompassing theory, practicals, and projects.

Awards:

1. Merit in Entrance Exam:

  • Students who achieve the top positions in each of the Film Wing Courses will be awarded a sum of ₹12,500.

2. Merit in 1st Semester:

  • Based on the GPA and earned credit, the top performers in common modules such as Editing, Sound Recording and Sound Design, Art Direction and Production Design, and Screenplay Writing will receive the following rewards:
    • First Place: ₹24,000
    • Second Place: ₹21,500
    • Third Place: ₹19,000

3. Topper in Acting: The student who excels in Acting will receive a reward of ₹24,000.

4. Topper in Screenplay Writing: The top-performing student in Screenplay Writing will be awarded ₹24,000.

5. Merit in II to V Semesters: Taking into account their CGPA and earned credit, the students who secure the first and second positions in each course will receive the following rewards:

  • First Place: ₹13,500
  • Second Place: ₹11,500

Film and Theatre Scholarships – International Undergraduate Scholarship Program

JMC Academy in Sydney offers the Film and Television Scholarship as part of its International Undergraduate Scholarship Program. Recipients of this scholarship must enroll in the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Film & Television) program. 

The scholarship is disbursed across each trimester of study, commencing with $3000 for the first trimester. The scholarship’s continuation is subject to the student meeting the stipulated requirements each trimester.

Requirements:

  • The student will be required to produce 2 x 1-minute high-quality videos per trimester, capturing various aspects of JMC Academy student life and activities. The International Services team will provide guidance during the video creation process.
  • To uphold the scholarship, the student needs to fulfill two key requirements:
    • Successfully pass all units in each trimester.
    • Develop videos that adequately align with the provided briefs. These videos should effectively meet the requirements in order to maintain the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Candidates should meet the regular admission prerequisites for entry into a JMC Academy bachelor’s degree. These requirements are as follows:

  • Attainment of a minimum age of 18 upon course commencement.
  • Evidence of successful completion of a senior secondary school certificate. Submit a certified copy of high school transcripts, with translation if not in English.
  • Demonstration of a satisfactory level of English language proficiency, equivalent to Academic IELTS 6.0, with no individual band score below 5.5.
  • Participation in an interview
  • Animation/Games/Design applicants need to present a portfolio.
  • Performance/Songwriting applicants are required to submit an audition or portfolio.

Awards: 

Selected candidates will receive a total of $18,000 over the course of their studies, disbursed in installments of $3,000 per trimester.

Film and Theatre Scholarships – Amba Dalmia Scholarship

The Amba Dalmia Scholarship Program is designed for Indian female students with aspirations for higher education in France, particularly in the fields of Music, Theatre, Sports, Arts, Sculpture, Cinema, Ballet, Opera, Painting, Photography, Oenology, and Culinary studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must hold Indian citizenship.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years or older during the application period.
  • Candidates should be a female student or professionals who have completed high school or graduated from an Indian institution, demonstrating a consistently outstanding academic track record.
  • Applicants must have either applied for or gained admission to a higher education institution in France.
  • Individuals who have received a scholarship from the French Government or Erasmus Mundus are not eligible for an additional scholarship.
  • While knowledge of French is advantageous, it is not obligatory for eligibility.

Film and Theatre Scholarships – LA FEMIS – Embassy of France Scholarship

La Fémis is a state-funded institution situated in Paris, France, operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the CNC, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Annually, in partnership with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, La Fémis offers a Summer program designed for foreign film and television students, as well as young film industry professionals. This program aims to enhance their practical and theoretical knowledge of documentary filmmaking in France.

The Summer university program spans 9 weeks, with intensive classes held 5 days a week. It welcomes a maximum of 15 students from various countries, including India. 

The La Femis – Embassy of France Scholarship presents a Summer Residency Programme that spans from May to July. This prestigious scholarship extends to Indian students for a limited duration of two months.

Selection Process:

Participants are selected through a collaborative evaluation process involving the cultural services of the French embassies, the Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and La Fémis representatives. The selection is based on submitted applications and a film directed by the applicants.

The Program Comprises:

  • Week 1-3: Classroom Learning
  • Over a span of 3 weeks, students participate in classes that encompass a wide range of film screenings.
  • The instruction is delivered by industry professionals who are also educators at La Fémis.
  • The classes revolve around several key themes, including capturing reality through filming, scriptwriting, structuring screenplays, the art of directing and documentary shooting, script development techniques, institutional landscape of French cinema, among others.

Practical Emphasis: The Second Phase

  • The subsequent part of the program is dedicated to the hands-on aspects of making a documentary.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must possess the equivalent of a baccalaureate and a minimum of 2 years of tertiary studies or its equivalent, except for the Distribution-Exhibition Entrance Exam, which necessitates 3 years of validated tertiary studies.
  • Candidates must be under 27 years for all entrance exams as of January 1.
  • Proficiency in the French language is mandatory.

Awards: 

As part of this scholarship, the selected student will receive a monthly stipend, a round-trip ticket to France, and extensive medical insurance coverage.
