The Bhumi Fellowship is a two-year, non-residential programme for young graduates who are committed towards improving the quality of education in India. Introduced by Bhumi, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), this fellowship aims to create a cadre of changemakers who can transform the schooling system in the short term and lead the next movement in education in the long run. The fellows selected under this fellowship will receive a monthly grant of ₹25,500 and other benefits.

The Bhumi Fellowship – An Overview

The Bhumi Fellowship is a unique opportunity for those candidates who are passionate towards transforming the education system. The fellows selected under this fellowship will get an opportunity to engage in a variety of teaching and capacity-building activities at schools located in and around Chennai. Some of the key activities include –

• Teaching foundational literacy (English) and numeracy (Mathematics) to grade 3-5 students
• Capacity development of teachers through sharing and learning circles
• Furthering leadership development in school leaders/headmasters
• Strengthening parental participation and investment 
• Identifying problems faced by the school/community and designing solutions

The Bhumi Fellowship – Eligibility Criteria

If you want to avail benefits under the Bhumi Fellowship, you are required to fulfil a few eligibility conditions. These conditions include –

• Candidates are aged between 20-30 years.
• Applicants must hold a degree in Social Work, Sociology, English Literature, B.Ed., Psychology, Law, B.E., or B.Tech program.
• They must be aligned with Teaching, EdTech, or Systemic Transformation.
• They must have prior experience in event organising, club leading, team managing, or student union involvement.
• They must be willing to commit to a two-year full-time fellowship.
• They must be based in Chennai or are ready to move to Chennai.

The Bhumi Fellowship – Grant Details

What kind of financial assistance is being offered under this fellowship? The answer to this question is covered in this section. The fellows selected under the Bhumi Fellowship will receive a monthly grant of ₹25,500. This grant includes ₹5,500 for monthly allowances, covering expenses such as housing rent, laptop, mobile data, and reimbursements.

Upon successful completion of the 2-year fellowship, they will receive a seed fund of  ₹1,00,000.
