The Bhumi Fellowship – An Initiative to Improve the Quality of Education

The Bhumi Fellowship is a two-year, non-residential programme for young graduates who are committed towards improving the quality of education in India. Introduced by Bhumi, a non-governmental organization (NGO), this fellowship aims to create a cadre of changemakers who can transform the schooling system in the short-term and lead the next-movement in education in the long-run. The fellows selected under this fellowship will receive a monthly grant of INR 18,000 and reimbursement of other related expenses.

The Bhumi Fellowship – An Overview

The Bhumi Fellowship is a unique opportunity for those candidates who are passionate towards transforming the education system. The fellows selected under this fellowship will get an opportunity to engage in a variety of teaching and capacity building activities at schools located in and around Chennai. Some of the key activities include –

  • Teaching foundational literacy (English) and numeracy (Mathematics) to grade 3-5 students
  • Capacity development of teachers through sharing and learning circles
  • Furthering leadership development in school leaders/headmasters
  • Strengthening parental participation and investment
  • Identifying problems faced by the school/community and designing solutions

The Bhumi Fellowship – Important Dates

Before heading on to explore every significant detail related to the fellowship, the candidates must keep note of the important dates related to it. The applications for the Bhumi Fellowship open in the month of May and continue till the month of June every year. However, for the 2021-22 cohort, the last date to submit the application is 30th June 2021

The Bhumi Fellowship – Eligibility Criteria

If you want to avail benefits under the Bhumi Fellowship, you are required to fulfil a few eligibility conditions. These conditions include –

  • Candidates must be final year students/graduates.
  • They must be between 20 and 30 years of age.
  • They must have done volunteering work or should have work experience in any field.
  • They must be passionate about transforming the education system.
  • They must be willing to commit to a two-year full-time fellowship.

The Bhumi Fellowship – Grant Details

What kind of financial assistance is being offered under this fellowship? The answer to this question is covered in this section. The fellows selected under the Bhumi Fellowship will receive the following benefits – 

  • A monthly grant of INR 18,000
  • Reimbursement of all program-related expenses like phone, travel, and stationery as per policy

In addition to this, the fellows will get an opportunity to –

  • Lead a cluster of 3 to 5 schools
  • Transform the education ecosystem in their community
  • Set-up their own organization

The Bhumi Fellowship – Application Process

The applications for the Bhumi Fellowship can be made online. If you find yourself eligible for this fellowship, you can proceed to apply for it by following the steps given below –

Step 1: Visit the Bhumi Fellowship page on Buddy4Study. 

Step 2: Read all the details carefully and proceed to click on the ‘Apply Now’ button given under the ‘How can you apply?’ section. 

Step 3: Login to Buddy4Study using registered ID to land onto the ‘Online Application Form Page’. If not registered, please register using an Email/Mobile/Facebook/Gmail account.

Step 4: You will be redirected to its official website of the Bhumi Fellowship. Click on the ‘Register’ button to complete the registration. 

Step 5: Fill in all required details in the application and submit. 

The Bhumi Fellowship – Selection Criteria

Besides fulfilling the eligibility criteria, the applicants are also required to qualify the selection process for the Bhumi Fellowship. The provider has set a multi-stage selection process for the candidates applying for this fellowship. The steps for selection include –
