New Delhi, August 23, 2023 – NMMS Scholarship 2023 – The registration process for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) examination is underway in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, and Nagaland.
Meritorious students from economically weaker sections enrolled in Class 8 in government, government-aided, and local body schools can apply for the scholarship through the official websites of their respective State/UT.
Under this scheme, it is proposed to award 100,000 scholarships to the gifted or meritorious students whose parental income is not more than ₹3,50,000 per annum from all sources at the time of selection of awardees for scholarship.
Each State/UT has fixed quota of scholarship for the concerned age group of Class 7 and 8. The scheme will provide reservation to different categories of students.
The NMMS scholarship exam is conducted to grant annual scholarships worth ₹12,000 to the students of Class 9 to 12. The scheme aims to prevent students from dropping out after Class 8 and motivate them to pursue their education further.
A total of 1 lakh scholarships are disbursed every year under this scheme. There is no application fee for appearing in this examination.

NMMS Scholarship 2023 – General Eligibility Conditions
General Eligibility Criteria | At the time of selection for the award, students must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) or an equivalent grade in their Class 7 examination for selection test in Class 8. |

NMMS Scholarship 2023 – Selection Process
Each State/UT will organise its own test at the stage of 8th-grade to select students for the National Means-cum-Merit scholarship. States or UT-level examination will have two tests:
- Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
The Mental Ability Test will have 90 multiple-choice questions to assess verbal and non-verbal metacognitive abilities, including reasoning and critical thinking. These questions may cover topics on analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figures, and more.
The Scholastic Aptitude Test will have 90 multiple-choice questions covering subjects of science, social studies, and mathematics taught in Class 7 and 8.
Each test will last for 90 minutes. Children with disabilities will receive additional time as necessary.
To qualify, students must pass both the tests MAT and SAT and achieve a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate taken together. However, cut off marks for SC/ST will be 32%.
