Scholarships worth Rs 4,88,000 were distributed at the event to 33 students from urban and rural districts of Bengaluru. In addition to this, two families of deceased template employees were granted death benefits of Rs 4 lakh. Furthermore, the programme also approved Rs 20,09,000 in scholarships for 158 students from seven districts which will be disbursed by district commissioners.
Initiatives to Improve Welfare of Temple Priests & Their Wards
At the event, the minister highlighted initiatives to better the welfare of temple priests through a proposed amendment to the General Collection Fund.
He said, “This Bill, currently awaiting the Governor’s approval, promises increased financial support for Category ‘C’ temples and their employees. Benefits include a Rs 5 lakh annual grant for 1,500 temples, scholarships for 3,000 children, and a Rs 5 lakh housing grant for 1,000 priests.”
