The application window for the National Board For Higher Mathematics (NBHM) Scholarship is currently active. Interested students can apply online by December 21, 2025. The exam will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 10:30 AM to 13:30 PM (IST).

Applicants planning to enrol in the academic year 2026–27 in master’s or doctoral programmes at institutions that use NBHM test scores for admission can apply before the deadline. NBHM Scholarship 2025 – Eligibility Criteria

The NBHM Scholarship 2025 is aimed at supporting students with a strong interest in mathematics / statistics / mathematical sciences. To ensure that the scholarship reaches the right candidates, the eligibility criteria have been carefully defined. Below are the key requirements that applicants must meet to be considered for this scholarship.

NBHM Master’s Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who have got admission in a master’s programme based on the NBHM test score.
Students with an aptitude for research, studying for the master’s degree in mathematics or statistics are eligible for this scholarship.
The applicant should not have previously drawn the NBHM Master’s Scholarship, and must submit it in writing while applying for the scholarship.

Important Note – For those already in the second year of a master’s programme during 2026–27, the scholarship tenure is limited to one year. For those who enrol in the first year in 2026–27, continuation for second year is applicable, but is contingent on satisfactory progress made during the first year.

NBHM Doctoral Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must enroll in a qualifying PhD programme by September 2027 or must be already enrolled.
Students possessing a master’s degree in mathematics, physics or statistics and wishing to take up research work in any branch of mathematics (including mathematical statistics and mathematical physics) leading to PhD degree are eligible to apply.
The scholarship is awarded for four years, and the annual renewal is based on satisfactory progress. It may be extended for one more year at the discretion of NBHM.

NBHM Scholarship 2025 – Application Process

Since NBHM scholarships are given to students who clear a screening test followed by an interview, the first step is to apply for the screening test. By following the steps mentioned below, interested students can apply for the NBHM exam. Take a look –

Step 1 – Visit the NBHM Scholarship Scheme Entrance Test Portal.

Step 2 – Click on the ‘Online Registration’ button.

Step 3 – The student will have to generate a login ID and password, by entering their name, e-mail, password (new), and captcha to proceed further.

Step 4 – Once you receive the registration number on your registered e-mail id, you can login using the same.

Step 5 – Once you login, you will have to enter your personal details and select which scholarship you wish to apply for. Students can apply for either master’s scholarship only or doctoral scholarship only, or both.

Step 6 – Once you’ve entered all the details and uploaded the required documents, click on ‘Submit’

Please Note – Application is not considered complete unless the application fee is paid and the application is submitted (within the deadline) with all details duly filled out. Application fee for the single scholarship is ₹400 (either master’s or doctoral) and ₹700 for both scholarships.

NBHM Master’s Scholarship

For master’s degree, a monthly stipend ₹8,000 is payable for up to 2 years.

NBHM Doctoral Scholarship

The amount of ₹37,000 per month will be given to the scholar for the first two years and ₹42,000 per month for the next three years after a detailed review/evaluation of the scholar’s work.
Additionally, a contingency grant of ₹40,000 per annum will also be given to the scholar.
