I quote here the popular phrase of Dr Derek Shepherd from the show Grey’s Anatomy, “It’s a beautiful day to save lives.” Though the show is a bit dramatic, well not a bit but a lot of it is beyond belief, you cannot refute the claims of the old saying that doctors are god-sent to save human lives. This age-old phrase emphasises the fact that we need more well-qualified and competent doctors for the ever-growing world population.
Pursuing studies in medicine or getting into a good medical school is not that easy. The rise in the cost of daily living has taken toll on all fields of study including that of the medicine. The number of students joining this course is steadily on the decline as many of them are unable to afford it.
To tackle this enormous problem, many institutions and business groups – government and private – have come forward with various kinds of scholarships for both meritorious and needy students.
Here is a list of scholarships which can benefit the aspiring medical students. Have a look at the top scholarships for the students of medicine.
Introduced by an organisation registered under the Ministry of Finance Act 1994, this program is designed to aid those meritorious students who wish to pursue higher education in medicine and engineering.
This scholarship is for Class XII students who have either passed or are still continuing it.
Launched by the DLF Foundation, this scholarship is meant to provide financial support to first-year undergraduates and postgraduate students who wish to go for higher education.
The domiciles of Gurugram are eligible to apply for this scholarship and the total worth of this scholarship is INR 1.25 crore.
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has initiated this scholarship for those meritorious Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students who cannot afford to complete their education.
It calls exemplary SC/ST candidates who have secured at least 60 per cent marks in Class XII for medical and engineering streams. This scholarship awards INR 48,000 per annum to each selected candidate.
Established by Life Insurance Corporation of India, the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship is for those meritorious students who belong to economically weaker sections of society.
Students who have qualified Class XII exam or its equivalent and interested to pursue education in the field of medicine, engineering and other graduate degrees, are eligible to apply. The scholarship amounts to INR 10,000 per annum.
As is rightly said that ‘sky is the limit’, all you need to do is reach for it with full determination and hard work. The above mentioned national and international scholarships are but a drop in the vast ocean of scholarships available for deserving students. If you really aspire to reach that stage where you stand with other graduating medical students to take the Hippocratic Oath, you need to up your game and take the right steps through the right avenues.
