“An industry that feeds you is an industry worth fighting for.”
These words seem to be the source of inspiration for Yumnam Sonata, a bright student from Manipur. Seeing the struggles of farmers around her inspired her to take up Botany. She wants to pursue higher research in the field to develop tools and technologies that could ease up some burden of the farmers.
Belonging to a modest background did not stop her from chasing her dreams. Through her hard work, she was able to receive the L’Oréal India For Young Women in Science Scholarship. We got in touch with her and asked her various questions. Here are the excerpts from our conversation with her:
Buddy4Study: Brief us a little about your academic background and professional journey.
Yumnam: My primary education was in our local school where I studied till Class 5. From Class 6 to 12, I was enrolled at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbong in Manipur. Currently, I am pursuing B.Sc. Hons. in Botany at Miranda House, Delhi.
Buddy4Study: What made you choose a course in Botany?

Buddy4Study: How did your family support you in this journey?
