Scholar Success Story – Know How Hard Work and Dedication Paid Off for Ramya.

Buddy4study: Share with us a brief background about your academic and professional journey until now.

Sai Ramya: I have been a topper throughout my academic career. I scored 87.33% marks in Class 10 board exam and 92.2% marks in Intermediate board examination. I took admission in Bachelor of Arts (BA) at Government Women’s College in Guntur. Even though the subjects of BA programme were new to me since I had studied Science in Class 12, I worked really hard during the three years of my graduation and stood topper in my college. I received a gold medal and the prestigious Prathiba Award from Sh. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for securing the highest marks in graduation under the jurisdiction of Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. I was also the recipient of Yuvatarang Award (Certificate of Excellence) for securing the highest marks in the subject of Economics at the graduation level in the State of Andhra Pradesh for the year 2014-15. Also, I received Rolling Cup (Certificate of Merit) for securing the highest marks in Economics during the three years of graduation competing with the students of Mathematics, Commerce and Computer Science. Even after all these achievements, I could not join a postgraduate programme immediately after completion of my graduation because of the financial constraints. I took admission in PG along with my sister for the next academic year, i.e., 2015-16. At that time, one of my uncles told me about the scholarship being offered by the Fair and Lovely Foundation for meritorious female candidates. I applied for it and by the blessings of God and my elders got the scholarship. Not only this, I once again won the gold medal for securing the highest marks in M.A (Economics). Furthermore, I have cleared two levels of examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and am waiting for the final result.

Buddy4Study: What motivated you to pursue M.A. in Economics?

Sai Ramya: I wanted to pursue a course in medicine, thus appeared for EAMCET conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Luckily I qualified with a good rank and got admitted into a Dental Programme. However, due to financial constraints, I could not join the Dental course which led me to opt for BA programmes. My relatives guided me to join the present course which could help me to prepare for Civil Services and other competitive exams. I do not regret my academic journey which led me to pursue M.A (Economics) because I got the opportunity to learn Arts subjects apart from the Science subjects and I also secured two gold medals.

Buddy4study: What were the key challenges faced by you during the course of your journey to reach here?

Sai Ramya: My father passed away in the year 2000 when I was just 5 years old. My mother and grandparents took care of me and my younger sister. They supported me to complete my school education from English medium. However, during my graduation we were taught all the subjects in regional language, i.e., in Telugu language. I faced lots of trouble to understand and assimilate the subject knowledge which was taught in Telugu. Not to be daunted, I was gradually able to understand the language and appeared for exam in Telugu language.

Buddy4study: What has been your source of inspiration?

Sai Ramya: I had faced a lot of challenges during my childhood but I was always ambitious to make it big. I worked hard and was able to get where I am today. My family also played a big role in fighting the obstacles that came our way.

Buddy4Study: How has your family supported you in your venture to pursue this course?

Sai Ramya: I could not have achieved this success without my family’s support. It’s still long way to go and I am eager to achieve even more. They have supported me to the maximum extent without which I could not have attained the present position I am in.

Buddy4study: How did you come to know about the Fair and Lovely Foundation Scholarship? What were the steps followed to avail the Scholarship?

Sai Ramya: One of my uncles informed me about the Fair and Lovely Scholarship and advised me to go through the website for further details. I visited the website of Buddy4Study, followed the instruction given there and applied for the scholarship. I submitted all the requisite documents and went through a round of telephonic interview. Finally, I was awarded with the scholarship.

Buddy4study: What are your ambitions in the future and how do you plan to execute them?

Sai Ramya: I am preparing for the government competitive exams so that I can secure a highly reputable position. I know that I will need to work extensively to achieve what I am aiming for. I would like to help people in need.

Buddy4study: Any piece of advice that you would like to impart to other potential aspirants like you who are constrained by various challenges towards pursuing higher education.

Sai Ramya: I would like to share my opinion that If we are determined to pursue our higher education, God will help us and provide an opportunity like Fair and Lovely Foundation Scholarship and a platform like Buddy4study to achieve our goals. Finally, I would like to appreciate the magnanimous efforts of the management of Fair and Lovely Foundation and Buddy4study for offering a scholarship to meritorious female students who have high ambitions. By providing financial assistance/scholarship to a female student for the completion of their education, they are not just helping a single child but a whole community and ultimately, the nation.
