“I dream because dreams cost nothing.”
Sipra Sain is an inspiration to many. A farmer’s daughter, a village girl, a dreamer and now, a Marubeni scholar. She has lived through circumstances where it was much easier to give up than to continue. Not only she managed to keep her spirit alive through these testing times but also came out as an inspiration for many girls like her. Despite the financial constraints, her family was always there to support her.
Sipra managed to avail the Marubeni India Meritorious Scholarship, affirming that one should never stop dreaming. We had an interview with her. Below are the excerpts from the same.
Buddy4Study: Can you tell us a little about your academic and professional journey?
Sipra: I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Arts from Galsi Mahavidyalaya, West Bengal. I am from a small village where I live with my parents and two sisters. My sister is the one who helped me with my studies. She was a very good student herself, but could not complete her studies because of a lack of funds.
Buddy4Study: Why did you choose to pursue a degree in Arts?
Sipra: Initially, I did not want to study Arts. But my family was unable to support my education in Science. So, I had to take up Arts because of my family’s financial situation. A lot of people think that one cannot achieve much by studying Arts. I believe people’s perception will change on seeing me.
Buddy4Study: During the course of your journey, what were the major challenges that you faced?
Sipra: My father is a farmer who cultivates a small portion of land which is the only source of income for our family. Due to our financial situation, my family could not afford tuition for me. It was very difficult for my parents to provide education to all the three sisters. I feel proud to be standing here in spite of facing all these troubles.
Buddy4Study: What has been your source of inspiration?
Sipra: My parents are my life’s inspiration. They sacrificed a lot for us sisters.
Buddy4Study: How has your family supported you in your venture to pursue this course?
Sipra: My father is the only source of income for our family. He does not have a kidney but he has to work hard on the farm to provide for the family. I cannot fully express the support I got from my family.
Buddy4Study: How did you come to know about the Marubeni India Meritorious Scholarship? What were the steps followed to avail the scholarship?
Sipra: I know an uncle who is very supportive of our family. But his financial condition is not very good. He found about this scholarship on the internet. I looked it up and applied for the scholarship through Buddy4Study. The application process was simple and I was able to receive the scholarship.
Buddy4Study: What are your ambitions in the future and how do you plan to execute them?
Sipra: I wish to study journalism through the help of this scholarship. My family and I would like to thank Marubeni India Meritorious Scholarship because this scholarship has helped me take a step towards the fulfillment of my dreams.
There are many families like mine where daughters still dream of a place like Buddy4Study that could help them pursue education.
Buddy4Study: Would you like to say something to other potential aspirants like you who are constrained by various challenges towards pursuing higher education?
Sipra: For those like me who are limited by their financial situations, I would like to tell them to not give up dreaming. Life is hard work and is not worth anything. The hard work eventually pays off through the results. Once again, I would like to thank Buddy4Study who is leading us to a better life.
