New Delhi, 22 February 2022 – The Minister of Social Welfare of the Government of Delhi – Rajendra Pal Gautam – has urged the central government to disburse the various student scholarships that cater to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Caste (OBC) students. The minister has requested the government to release the funds to help students deal with the financial problems they are facing due to the non-disbursal of the scholarship money.

SC, ST, OBC Scholarships – Minister Conducted a Meeting With Department Officials
On 21 February 2022, the social welfare minister chaired a meeting to address the issue of the non-disbursement of various student scholarships within the department. The meeting was attended by the Director of SC and ST welfare department along with other high-ranking officials of the education and finance departments.
During the meeting, Gautam reviewed the disbursement details of various scholarships that catered to SC, ST, and OBC students. After the meeting, Rajendra Pal Gautam stated, “There has been a delay in disbursement of student scholarships under the ST/SC/OBC department. I have ordered the officers to resolve all the issues as soon as possible so that students start receiving their scholarships at the earliest. The application process for the scholarships should start at the beginning of the academic year itself.”
SC, ST, OBC Scholarships – Officials Directed to Expedite Disbursal
On Friday (11 February 2022), the Government of Delhi directed all schools to complete the verification of all pending applications of SC, ST, and OBC students from the financial year 2017-18 to the year 2021-22. The Directorate of Education (DoE) also directed the Deputy Directorate of Education (DDE) Zone to call a meeting of all defaulter private schools immediately and clear the backlog.
The backlog was discussed in the Monday (21 February) meeting and the Social Welfare Minister noticed that there were pendencies regarding the disbursement of student scholarships under the SC/ST/OBC department. As this was causing inconvenience to students, the minister directed the officials to immediately expedite the process.
