Odisha Pre-Matric Scholarship – Details
- Pre-Matric scholarships are given to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students studying in ST & SC Development Department educational institutions as well as School & Mass Education Department – including special ST/SC hostels of ST & SC Development Department – in the state of Odisha.
- Due to significant increases in the prices of food and other essential commodities of daily use, the current rate of pre-matric scholarship is deemed insufficient to meet the requirement of students under the Odisha board.
- Given the insufficiency of the operating rates of pre-matric scholarship given to SC/ST boarder students, the state government has decided to increase the rates of pre-matric scholarship with respect to students under the Odisha board.

Odisha Pre-Matric Scholarship – Revised Rates
The increased rates of the Odisha pre-matric scholarship, as detailed below, will be effective from the date of this resolution‘s issuance as of 4th June 2022 until further orders are issued:
Note:
- In the case of students from Classes 9-12 of educational institutions under the administrative control of the ST & SC Development Department as well as School & Mass Education Department, additional rice of 250 gm will be allotted per day per candidate at subsidised rates to provide an additional meal during Mid Day Meal time.
- The cost of the additional allotment of subsidised rice will be covered by the ST & SC Development Department in addition to the regular scholarship amount.
Odisha Pre-Matric Scholarship – Additional Information
- The Odisha pre-matric scholarship is intended to cater to the candidates studying under the ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department (Department of School and Mass Education, Odisha).
- Initially, the monthly scholarship amount was used to cover hostel mess expenses such as lentils, vegetables, non-vegetarian items, edible oil, spices, and fuel costs.
- The Government of Odisha would spend around Rs 490 crore per year on the flagship scheme, which was last revised in 2015.
- Aside from the scholarship, officials stated that millet-based food items will be added to the hostel menu to address the nutritional needs of the students under the board.
- According to officials, the scheme will benefit over 5 lakh ST and SC students.
