Medhabruti 2024 is a merit-cum-means scholarship that comes under e-Medhabruti scheme offered by the Government of Odisha. Started with the objective to financially support the meritorious and needy students, Medhabruti encourages and motivates students to pursue higher education in the fields of general, technical and professional education.
These scholarship can be availed by the students who are the residents of Odisha and are studying in class 11 to post graduation. A total of 24,500 scholarships are disbursed every year under e-Medhabruti scholarship scheme at the rate of up to INR 10,000.
Medhabruti – Types of Scholarships
There are four categories of scholarships that come under Medhabruti. These categories are Junior Merit, Senior Merit, PG Merit and Technical & Professional Merit scholarships which cater to the needs of students pursuing general courses and technical & professional courses. Medhabruti – Key Dates

Medhabruti – Eligibility
The scholarships mentioned in the table above can be applied by the candidates belonging to the state of Odisha. Before checking the eligibility criteria, the students must make sure that they are pursuing their higher education in the following courses:

- For Junior Merit Scholarship: The applicant must be studying Higher Secondary (+2) course/class 12.
- For Senior Merit Scholarship: The applicant must be pursuing +3 degree courses like B.A., B.Sc. or B.Com. and also courses like BBA, BCA, BJMC, etc. of 3 years duration.
- For PG Merit Scholarship: The interested students must be pursuing postgraduation degree courses in Arts, Commerce, Science or other disciplines which are non-professional in nature. The table given below contains the list of such PG courses which are applicable for Medhabruti.

The candidates must be pursuing undergraduate professional and integrated degree courses which are approved by the government regulatory bodies like AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), MCI (Medical Council of India), DCI (Dental Council of India), CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicine), CCH (Central Council of Homeopathy, INC (Indian Nursing Council) or UGC (University Grants Commission). There are a number of key eligibilities that an applicant must fulfil to avail of the scholarship benefits.
- The candidates interested to apply for the scholarship must be permanent residents of Odisha.
- The annual income of the candidates’ parents must not be more than INR 6 Lakh from all the sources.
- The applicants must have scored at least 60% marks in the exam for different categories of merit scholarships
- The applicants must apply for the scholarship only in the year of joining, i.e., 1st year of the course.

Medhabruti – Rewards
The students selected for the scholarships are given financial assistance to cover the cost of their higher education. The scholarship amount they become eligible to receive is directly transferred into their bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) by the Higher Education Department. All a student needs to do is to have an active and valid bank account in his/her own name in any nationalised bank which has Electronic Clearing System (ECS) or Core Banking facility. The details of the scholarship amount are highlighted below.

Medhabruti – Key Documents

Medhabruti – Selection Process
The candidates applying for Medhabruti scholarships are selected on the basis of their marks obtained in the qualifying exam and their annual family income. Given below are some factors that are considered while selecting a student for the receipt of the scholarship.
- Applicants must fulfil the eligibility conditions as specified in the different categories of merit.
- The student record must be validated/authenticated online by the Principal of the concerned college/institute.
- The applicant’s marks in the last qualifying exam is also considered during the selection process.
- In case of a tie in the marks under a particular type of scholarship, the student’s annual family income is considered, in which the student with lower family income is given preference.
Medhabruti: Renewal Policy
Financial assistance under e-medhabruti scholarship scheme is automatically renewed on a year-to-year basis in the same category till the end of the applicant’s course. Before the automatic renewal, the institute does online validation/authentication. The students who drop out/pass out are not eligible for the scholarship renewal scheme.
Medhabruti – Terms & Conditions
Applicants must adhere to certain rules and regulations before/while applying for the scholarship. Some important points have been highlighted below.
- The candidates who are pursuing their higher education through distance learning or open university are not eligible under e-medhabruti.
- Students who are already availing of any other scholarship scheme of State or Central Government or any other agency are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
- Students studying diploma level courses are also not eligible.
- Phil, PhD, B.Ed and M.Ed students are not eligible under e-medhabruti.
- The candidates who are studying abroad cannot avail of this scholarship.
- The scholarships are disbursed among boys and girls in a 50:50 ratio.
- Refrain from multiple registrations/ applications for a particular category of merit scholarships as it would lead to the rejection of the scholarship application form.
- Wrong information or documentation at any stage of authentication can lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.
- The applicants are advised to keep a copy of the filled application form for future reference.
- The applications which are not validated/authenticated by the institute are treated as ‘invalid’.
