16 June 2022, NEW DELHI – Khelo India Youth Games Scholarship – Taking into account the upcoming Commonwealth Games, the Indian government initiated the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) that were held from 4 June to 13 June, 2022 in Panchkula (Haryana). The ten-day programme featured a total of 8,500 athletes, coaching staff, and support personnel from different regions of the country trying to compete for 1,866 medals that included 545 gold, 545 silver, and 776 bronze medals. The tournament also included more than 25 different types of games.
Witnessing the enthusiasm and competitive drive among the attendees of Khelo India Youth Games, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has decided to provide monetary support in the sum of Rs. 6,28,000 lakh for every residential athlete training at certified academies under the yearly Khelo India scholarship scheme. This would also include a Rs. 1,20,000 lakh out-of-pocket allowance (OPA).
Out of the entire corpus of Rs. 6,28,000, the OPA (1,20,000 lakh per year) is directly deposited into the Khelo India Youth Games player’s savings account. The remaining will be allotted towards training, meals, accomodation, and education at the Khelo India Academy, where the athletes receive their respective training. For the April-June period, SAI has released OPA for 2,189 athletes from 21 disciplines, including para-athletes.
