New Delhi, 28 June 2022 – The Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme is inviting applications from eligible women candidates to receive a Rs 1000 monthly stipend from the Social Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu. Girls who have studied in government schools from Class 6 to Class 10 and are enrolled in higher education programmes in the 2022-23 academic year (or are currently pursuing undergraduate programmes) can apply for financial assistance at penkalvi.tn.gov.in.
The aim of the scheme is to reduce the financial burden on girl students who are pursuing higher education and “enhance the enrolment ratio of girls from Government schools to Higher Education Institutions,” as per the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment.

Who’s Eligible for the Moovalur Ramamirtham Education Assurance Scheme?
As the scholarship aims to reduce the financial burden on girls, female students who have studied from Class 6 to Class 10 in government-run schools can apply for the higher education assurance scheme. These government schools include Panchayat Union Primary and Middle schools, Adi Dravidar Welfare schools, Municipality schools, Municipal Corporation schools, Tribal Welfare schools, Kallar Rehabilitation schools, Disability Welfare schools, Forest Department schools, Social Welfare schools, and Backward/Most Backward Welfare schools.

- Diploma Courses
- Bachelor’s degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, etc.
- Professional courses such as BE, BTech, MBBS, BDS, BSc, BVSc, BFSc, BL, etc.
- Paramedical courses such as physiotherapy, pharmacy, nursing, and medical lab technology.
The Moovalur Ramamirtham Higher Education Assurance Scheme does not apply to those pursuing distance education courses, postgraduate courses, or programmes from open universities, or those in the last year of their undergraduate course.
Girls who have studied in private schools from Class 6 to Class 8 under the Right To Education Act but have completed Class 9 to Class 12 from government schools can also apply.
Note: Candidates who are currently holding scholarships from other schemes can also apply.

Before applying, applicants are advised to have the following documents handy:
