FAEA Scholarships 2024-25: Aims and Objectives

The Foundation for Academic Excellence and Access (FAEA) is devoted to the idea of education and works towards it with the following aims and objectives: 

  • Empowerment through excellence: The FAEA aims to attain transformation by providing individuals with the tools and opportunities necessary to achieve their full potential.
  • Equality of opportunities: The scholarships offered by the FAEA play an important role in removing financial hurdles that frequently prevent exceptional students from pursuing higher education. It allows scholars to focus on their education, participate in extracurricular activities, and acquire vital skills without worrying about financial obligations. This boosts their confidence and motivates them to flourish academically and personally.
  • Skill development: It provides beneficiaries with access to various workshops and mentorship programmes that enhance essential skills like leadership, communication and leadership. In addition, there are opportunities for peer learning that promote the exchange of ideas and experiences, enriching their educational journey. 
  • Promoting  educational attainment: The FAEA scholarships addresses educational deprivation by providing scholarships to the economically and socially backward classes thereby promoting educational attainment. In its attempt to confront the systemic inequalities in the path of education, it specifically targets marginalised groups such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and those living below the threshold BPL (Below Poverty Line) level. 

FAEA Scholarships 2024-25: Who Can Apply?

The key eligibility criteria that a student needs to fulfil to apply for scholarships offered by the FAEA are as follows:

  • Applicants should have passed Class 12 from a recognised board or should be pursuing undergraduate in the first year in India.
  • Applicants should belong to SC/ST/OBC/BPL/EWS categories.
  • 10 out of a total of 60 scholarships are allocated for Garg Snehmayi Scholarships which is specifically for girls of Punjab to pursue their studies in the best institutions of India. 
  • There are some Merit-cum-Means based financial grants meant for the students from the General category, especially those who have obtained above 90% marks in their Higher Secondary Exam and/or have been able to get admission in the first-rate Institutions of Excellence like IITs, NITs, AIIMS, NIFT etc.

(Note: Students whose Class 12th results are not yet declared can apply for it only after it is officially released.) 

FAEA Scholarships 2024-25: Rewards and Benefits

The FAEA scholarships take into account the relevant expenditures of scholars and pay tuition fees and other allowances for students admitted to institutions. These allowances include the following:

Tuition Fee: FAEA pays only for the free seats available in the colleges/institutions. In order to avail this, the candidates must submit the fee certificate duly signed and attested by the Principal/Dean/Director of the college/institute in which they have sought admission. 

Career Assessment Test

Maintenance Allowance: This includes a monetary reward of ₹1800 per annum for scholars who do not stay in college hostels. 

Book Allowance: A scholar can avail a book allowance of up to ₹2000 per annum which is released at the beginning of the academic year by a demand draft.

Clothing Allowance: Under this, each FAEA scholar is entitled to ₹1000 annually, which is disbursed at the start of the academic year via a demand draft.

Travel Allowance: This also includes a sum of ₹1000 per annum, which is disbursed with the help of a demand draft at the beginning of the academic year. Additionally, scholars who have to travel to different cities for their education may make a separate request for the same. 

Miscellaneous Allowance: This allowance of ₹3000 per annum is only for candidates who are entitled to hostel and mess charges. 

Buddy4Study - Education Loan

Hostel & Mess Charges: The FAEA pays the actual hostel and mess charges as certified by the administration of the college/institute. For this, the Hostel and Mess Certificate containing the entire amount payable in an academic year duly signed and attested by the Principal/Dean/Director/Warden /Provost of College/Institute/hostel needs to be submitted.

  • Copy of grant letter signed by the scholar
  • Class 10th and 12th marksheet attested by the Principal of college/school 
  • Attested photocopy of BPL Card/BPL Certificate/Ration Card/Household Card etc. preferably in english language
  • Attested photocopy of latest Income Certificate, issued by the authorized Govt. agency/department preferably in english language 
  • Attested photocopy of Caste Certificate (As applicable for SC,ST or OBCs) issued by the authorized Govt. agency/department preferably in english language
  • 2 passport size photographs (with confirmation code and name written at the back of the photo)
  • Bank details of the candidate

What does FAEA stand for?

The acronym FAEA stands for Foundation for Academic Excellence and Access – a foundation that works towards social justice through education by financially supporting students from the socially and economically marginalised sections in the pursuit of educational excellence.   

What becomes important after having applied for the FAEA Scholarship?

After having applied for the FAEA scholarship, it is very important to take a note of the 9 digit confirmation code required for future correspondence with FAEA. Remember, you do not need to upload or send any documents at the time of application. If you are shortlisted in the preliminary round of selection you will be advised to appear for an interview along with the original documents.

Who is eligible for the FAEA Scholarship?

However, there are some need-cum-merit based financial grants meant for the students from the General category especially those who have secured more than 90% marks in their Higher Secondary Exam and/or have been able to get admission in the first-rate Institutions of Excellence.

Is the FAEA scholarship renewable?

Yes, the FAEA Scholarship is renewable. However, renewal is based on meeting the specified conditions set by the Foundation. Scholars must submit their academic records, a letter of recommendation from their college principal, and a confirmation that they are not receiving any other scholarships. The renewal process ultimately rests on the nod of FAEA on the basis of the scholar’s performance and compliance with these standards.

Under what circumstances can this scholarship be discontinued?

The FAEA scholarship can be discontinued under the following conditions:

  • If candidates fail to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • If they experience a physical or mental illness that prevents them from continuing their program of study or present false declarations. 

Can FAEA scholars pursue their studies outside India?

No, FAEA is a scholarship programme that funds the education of only those students who pursue their undergraduate studies in India.

What is the process for renewing the FAEA scholarship after having completed an academic year?

To renew the FAEA scholarship, the scholar must meet the following conditions and submit the required documents:

  • An attested mark sheet of the academic year, certified by the college principal.
  • A recommendation letter from the college principal, confirming satisfactory academic performance.
  • Details of the scholar’s percentage of marks as per the required format.
  • A scholarship declaration letter stating that the scholar is not receiving any other scholarship as per the required format.
  • An annual expenditure certificate/fee certificate detailing the expenses for the next academic year, duly attested by the college principal as per the required format.
  • If applicable, an annual hostel and mess certificate attested by the college principal as per the required format.

Can an FAEA scholar enroll in a diploma course?

No, FAEA does not fund diploma courses. The scholarship is applicable only for courses that lead to a degree.

Does FAEA allow scholars to defer their scholarship for a year to prepare for entrance exams?

Yes, FAEA scholars can defer their scholarship for one year under the following circumstances:

  • To prepare for competitive exams such as MBBS or Engineering.
  • In case of serious illness or an accident.
  • The deferment request must be forwarded by the college principal and is permitted only once during the scholarship tenure. Scholars must submit a written application to FAEA, explaining the reasons for deferment, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
