Buddy4Study: Share with us a brief background about your academic and professional journey until now.
Rahul MR: I have completed my schooling from Kerala State Board and scored A+ as my overall grade in 10th Class and 95% in 12th Class. I secured a good rank in All Kerala Entrance Examination and pursued Engineering in Electronics and Communication stream. After graduation, I worked in an IT firm, Cognizant, for 2 years. I wanted to pursue a degree in management since my college days and I prepared for the CAT exam simultaneously. With my dedicated effort, I secured a good percentile in the exam and got admission in an IIM.
Buddy4Study: What motivated you to pursue a course in management?
Rahul MR: During my college days, I participated in varying co-curricular activities such as being elected as a class representative, as a student council member and also as a core committee member in the technical fests, etc. All those were great learning experiences for me and motivated me for pursuing a career in management. Moreover, during my work experience, I understood the importance of a management degree in decision making and for managing people as well as the organisation.
Buddy4Study: What were the key challenges that you faced during the course of your journey to reach here?
Rahul MR: Managing studies along with work was a key challenge faced by me during my preparation. I used to work for 9 hours and then I had to study daily for no less than 2 hours so that I could crack the management entrance exam. During the weekends, I gave mock exams and analysed the results. To keep up the motivation till the final day of the exam was important for me.
The financial constraint was another challenge that I had to face. I had applied for an educational loan and the scholarship provided by the Capital First team was helpful in reducing the burden of the educational loan.
Buddy4Study: What has been your source of inspiration?
Rahul MR: I have read about the stories of many leaders which inspired me. They motivated me to pursue my career in engineering. Whenever I felt demotivated, I used to watch the motivational stories of great leaders and people. The support from my parents and friends was another key source of inspiration which drove me forward.
Buddy4Study: How has your family supported you in your venture to pursue this course?
Rahul MR: Even though my family wasn’t much aware about the examination process, they stood by my side in everything. They motivated me and supported me in every decision I made. The courage provided by my family is the key to my success.
Buddy4Study: How did you come to know about the Capital First Scholarship? What were the steps followed to avail the scholarship?
Rahul MR: I saw the advertisement in the newspaper regarding the scholarship and thereafter I checked the website to confirm the authenticity of the same. I signed at the portal of Buddy4Study and proceeded with the online application and submitted the relevant documents. I got selected for the scholarship after undergoing telephonic interviews.
Buddy4Study: What are your ambitions in the future and how do you plan to execute them?
Rahul MR: Currently, I want to gain as much as I can during these 2 years of my management education and thereafter, I want to work with a firm where I can confidently apply my learnt skills.
