Even the most talented person can suffer from a crisis of confidence. Nothing can be more crippling than lack of belief in one’s own abilities. Unfortunately, this is a pitfall many students stumble into before they can create their success story. On the other hand, there is empirical evidence that academic and career success is guaranteed for those who possess an unwavering self-confidence. Even if the entire world tells them that they cannot do something, it will not affect their belief in going for it.
Hannah Gupta fits this bill perfectly. Her self-belief has held her firm in the face of any obstacle that has come her way. It held her in good stead while winning the PNB Housing Finance Limited Protsahan Scholarship as well. We discussed her success story in an interview recently. Below are a few excerpts from the same:
Hannah: My academic journey has been quite straight forward from the beginning. I always knew I had to choose commerce as my stream and pursue a B.COM. I finished my B.COM from Government Rajindra College in Bathinda. When I was pursuing my graduation, I decided to go for an MBA and started preparing for entrance exams. After clearing entrance in my first attempt, I took admission for the MBA at BIMTECH.
Hannah: My educational background is in commerce and I have always been more interested in practical subjects. Before taking the decision for my specialisation, I consulted briefly with my father and we both reached the same decision, considering my interest in the subject.
Hannah: The one thing I was most worried about was being able to clear the entrance exam. But I did cross that hurdle on my first try, giving me a lot of confidence.
Hannah: My mother has been my biggest source of inspiration. She has always motivated me and encouraged me to do better. She has always pushed me to make a career for myself so I can be independent. I always share my problems and joys with my mother first. She has always supported me in my decisions and is ready to fight with anyone for me.
Hannah: My family has contributed and supported me financially and emotionally at every step. My father has arranged money somehow for my course and my mother made me strong so that I can do better and achieve something from it.
Hannah: I came to know about this scholarship through a mail which was floated by the college. And I read the mail just a day before the deadline to submit the documents. I quickly talked with my father and arranged all the documents required for applying for the scholarship.
Hannah: I plan to pay my next fee instalment of the course with the amount I will get for the scholarship. There is no better way I can spend it and help my parents.
Hannah: My first priority is to get a good paying job so I can pay back the loan I have taken for my education. I also want to be able to help my younger siblings with their studies.
Hannah: I would like to help students who want to study but cannot because of their financial problems.
Hannah: I would suggest young students to choose what they want to do and then pursue that with full enthusiasm and self-confidence. Once you have a goal in sight, never waver from it.
