As a mark of respect to martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the country, the University of Mysore (UoM) will offer free education to the children of martyred soldiers, the UoM said in a statement.
The Academic Council members, in a meeting chaired by UoM in-charge Vice Chancellor Dayanand Mane, decided to provide free education from under-graduation to PhD level from the next academic year.
Free hostel, food and education facilities will be provided to the students, who get admission at the UoM and a fee concession will also be given for those who join private institutions affiliated to the UoM.
As per the new decision, the children of martyrs from across the country will be able to avail the facility as in the previous occasion, some varsities in Karnataka had offered free education to girl children of martyrs killed in Uri attack in Kashmir.
According to reports, the state government had earlier urged the UoM to offer free education from UG to PhD level to daughters of martyred soldiers, who died in Uri attack in 2016.
According to sources, the varsity has been providing free education to children of those farmers who committed suicides in Mysuru region.
