New Delhi, 11 May 2021 – The Maharashtra Scholarship Test 2021 for Classes 5 and 8 has been postponed by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) due to the rising cases of COVID-19 throughout India.
This is not the first time that the postponement of the pre-upper primary scholarship (Class 5) and pre-secondary scholarship examination (Class 8) 2021 test has taken place. Earlier, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) had postponed the scholarship test that was scheduled to be held on 25th April 2021. Later, the scholarship test was planned to be conducted on 23rd May 2021, which now has been postponed indefinitely. The widespread coronavirus pandemic has been the reason for postponement both times.
An official from MSCE stated, “Our priority is looking into the best interest of the students. As the pandemic is progressing rapidly, endangering the lives of people, we have decided to postpone the Pre-higher Secondary Scholarship Examination (E-5V) and Pre-Secondary Scholarship Examination (E-8V) examination immediately.”
The same decision has been supported by the School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad, who also stated, “Given the increasing prevalence of corona at present, the pre-Higher Secondary Scholarship Examination (E-5V) and Pre-Secondary Scholarship Examination (E-8V) to be held on the same day in all the districts on 23rd May 2021 has been postponed immediately in view of the interest of the students.”
The School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad, also said, “This year, a total of 47662 schools across the state have registered for the scholarship examination. A total of 632478 students of class 5th (388335) and class 8th (244143) will appear for this examination. Student safety and health care is our priority.”
As of now, no precise exam dates have been released. MSCE has officially announced that the new Maharashtra scholarship test dates will be released only after the COVID situation comes under control.
Besides, the Maharashtra State Board has already cancelled the Class 10 exam and postponed the Class 12 board examination due to the prevailing pandemic situation. Various University exams and several State and National level exams have also been postponed in the state of Maharashtra.
