Selection Process: Four-Stage Evaluation

The IET India Scholarship Award follows a rigorous, four-stage selection process designed to evaluate academic merit, leadership potential, and problem-solving abilities.

Stage 1: Online Application and Initial Evaluation

  • Only those candidates who clear the eligibility criteria as set out by the IET India Scholarship Award will be considered in the Online Application round.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online test on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) essentials.
  • The shortlisted candidates from Stage 1 will make it to Stage 2 and be included in the top 10 percentile of applicants from every region (North, East & Northeast, South 1, South 2, and West).
  • For the South region, the division of states will be:
    • South 1: Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala.
    • South 2: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Pondicherry.
  • The scores will be calculated from the total applications received, based on the weightages assigned to each of the questions in the online application form mentioned below:

Applications are assessed based on weighted criteria:

  • Academic Performance: 52%
  • Extra and Co-curricular Activities: 20%
  • Professional Activities: 13% (Membership in professional bodies, coordinating activities of the professional bodies, office bearer of any professional body/student chapter, contributing to professional bodies through paper presentations, etc.)
  • Outreach – 10% (Activities other than institutional activities like coordinating or organising industrial visits, organising lectures/seminars, etc.)
  • IET Student Membership: 15%

The top 10 per cent of applicants from each region move on to the second stage.

Stage 2: Online Test (July 2-4, 2025)

Shortlisted applicants from Stage 1 will be invited to take an All-India online test. The test comprises approximately 50 multiple-choice questions designed to assess knowledge in the following 7 subjects:

  1. Physics
  2. Chemistry
  3. Mathematics
  4. Mechanical Engineering
  5. Electrical Engineering
  6. Electronics
  7. Computer Science

The top scoring 30 applicants in each Region (North, South 1 and South 2, East & Northeast and West) will progress to Stage 3. The results will be communicated by July 14, 2025.

Stage 3: Regional Round Presentations (July 25 to September 6, 2025)

  • In the Regional Level Assessment, applicants shortlisted from each region will present on topics assigned by the jury members.
  • Five major societal challenges will be identified, and students will be invited to propose technological solutions for them. Each region’s challenge topic will be based on current and emerging issues specific to that region.
  • This round will take place in person on the scheduled presentation date in a central city for each region. Venue details and timings will be shared with the shortlisted students in advance.
  • The Regional Jury members will guide and mentor the winners for the next round.

Shortlisted candidates will participate in an in-person presentation round held in central cities for each region:

  • Delhi (North)
  • Kolkata (East and Northeast)

  • Bangalore (South 1: Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala)
  • Chennai (South 2: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry)

Candidates will be given at least 10 days’ notice for preparation and assigned a real-world societal challenge relevant to their region. Participants are expected to present a technological solution to the problem before a regional jury panel.

One winner and one runner-up will be selected from each region. Only the winners will proceed to the national finals. Additionally, winners will receive mentorship from the regional jury.

Stage 4: National Finals (September 15, 2025)

Held in Bangalore, the finals will feature the five regional winners who will present their improved technological solutions and future plans to a national jury panel.

Evaluation criteria include:

  • Quality and innovation of the proposed solution
