Dr Ambedkar Scholarship
Dr Ambedkar Scholarship for DNTs, named after the Father of the Indian Constitution, is a centrally-sponsored scholarship scheme of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. However, this scheme is implemented by the State Governments/ Union Administrations/ Universities/ Colleges as State scholarships such as Dr Ambedkar Scholarship of Chandigarh/Haryana/Tripura. Under this scholarship scheme, the ratio of the funding for scholarship amount between the Centre and the State is 75:25. It caters to Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNTs) that are not included in the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. The main objective of Dr Ambedkar Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to the children belonging to DNTs so that they become socially, economically and educationally empowered.

Named as Dr Ambedkar Sanshodhit Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna, this scholarship is run by the Government of Haryana for the benefit of those students who belong to Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Nomadic, DNTs, Semi-Nomadic, Vimukti Jati and Tapriwas Jati. Under this Dr Ambedkar Scholarship, the selected candidates become eligible to receive a scholarship amount of INR 8000 to INR 12,000 per annum. As for eligibility criteria, the annual family income of the candidate must not be more than INR 4 Lakh. Also, they must have the domicile of Haryana and be studying in class 11 to postgraduation.
This scholarship is implemented by the Education Department of Chandigarh Administration. Under this scheme, students belonging to Economically Backward Class (EBC) are provided financial assistance (maintenance fee, tuition fees, compulsory non-refundable fees and other miscellaneous charges) to help them pursue post-secondary level education. In order to avail Dr Ambedkar Scholarship of Chandigarh, candidates must be the permanent residents of Chandigarh and their annual family income must not exceed INR 1 Lakh. Also, the students applying for the scholarship must be studying in a recognised institution.
Run by the Directorate of Higher Education under Government of Tripura, this scholarship is for general category students who belong to the Economically Backward Class (EBC). Under Dr Ambedkar scholarship scheme, students receive financial assistance in the form of maintenance allowance, compulsory non-refundable fees and other miscellaneous charges. In order to avail the benefit of the scholarship, the candidates must be the domicile of Tripura state and their annual family income must not be more than INR 1 Lakh. Also, the applicants must be pursuing education at post-matriculation level from a government-recognised institution.
Besides the scholarships mentioned above, there’s also Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Portal of Punjab which offers information about post-matric scholarships for SC and OBC students of Punjab state. This portal is managed by the Government of Punjab and provides scholarship application solutions to the students. In order to apply for the scholarships listed on this portal, the students must be the domiciles of Punjab state and belong to the categories of SC and OBC.
