These efforts primarily aim at enhancing the employability skills of students graduating from these institutions. To achieve this, AICTE has developed a model curriculum in collaboration with leading academicians across the country, ensuring that graduates are industry-ready and possess the required competencies. The curriculum integrates a six-month AICTE internship for students, spread across different stages of their academic program.

AICTE Internships: Objectives

Having already facilitated 54 lakh internships so far AICTE aims to provide 1 crore internships to technical graduates by 2025. The initiative emphasizes virtual internships, especially in AI, Data Science, and emerging technologies. Collaborations with MSMEs play a crucial role in broadening opportunities, particularly in underserved regions. AICTE is committed to promotion of paid internships and improvement of accessibility for students in rural areas. Post-pandemic, virtual internships have gained significant traction, now accounting for 40–50% of placements, benefiting students across India.

Since its launch in 2020, this platform has helped connect numerous engineering and polytechnic students with internship opportunities offered by startups, corporates, and industries. Partnerships with leading industry players like Google, Microsoft, TCS, etc, along with startups and local businesses have helped multiply these opportunities. Through its strategic partnership with Internshala, AICTE aims to improve students’ hands-on learning experiences, give them the tools they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market, and support their professional development by utilizing Internshala’s wide network of industry partners and internship management expertise. Students will have access to a variety of online training courses, workshops, and internships in a number of fields, such as technology, management, finance, and more.

AICTE Internships: Virtual Internship Programme!

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance and effectiveness of virtual and remote internships that make up for a substantial proportion (about 40-50%) of all the internship programmes offered on this platform. There is a significant increase in the internships in the field of Machine Learning (ML), Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies. Such a model is not just flexible, but also allows companies to connect to a nation wide talent pool. It has a larger participation of students from the rural areas as it is now possible for them to intern with firms in urban areas. Hence, students from the underserved regions are now actively taking up tech, design and research based internships without relocating.
