Buddy4study: Share with us a brief background about your academic and professional journey (if any) until now.
Abhdripta: My parents have always believed in my potential and have faith that I will carve my own identity someday. During my initial years as a student, I studied at Bidya Bharati Girls’ School. After two years, I got admitted into Sree Sree Sarada Ashrama Balika Vidyalaya, New Alipore due some financial difficulties. It was a wonderful school despite not being an English-medium school. Here, I learned punctuality, sense of responsibility and morality. These learnings turned me into the person who I am today. After passing Class 10, I took admission in Jadavpur Vidyapith and completed Class 12 there. I secured 97.2% marks in Class 12 and ranked 1st in my district from WBCHSE. Currently, I am pursuing B.Sc. (Honours) in Statistics from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.
Buddy4study: What motivated you to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Statistics?
Abhdripta: I love to play with numbers. Mathematics has always been my favorite subject. After passing Class 10, I started learning Statistics in more depth although it was an optional subject. I would like to gain expertise in the subject of Statistics.
Buddy4study: What were the key challenges faced by you during the course of your journey to reach here?
Abhdripta: I have had a tough time due to financial difficulties. Besides monetary problems, I have also faced prejudice from people who believe that only those children can succeed in life who are the products of expensive schools. Sometimes, it becomes hard to believe in oneself when people around you neglect and disregard the potential in you. However, I overcame all these biases with my family’s unconditional support.
Buddy4study: What has been your source of inspiration?
Abhdripta: I have this eagerness in me to prove myself which has always motivated me to move towards my goals. During this journey, I encountered people who tried to pull me down. However, I answered their disregard with my achievements. Also, Sarada Devi and her verses have always been the brightest lantern to my path. My elder sister has also played a key role in my support.
Buddy4study: How has your family supported you in your venture to pursue this course?
Abhdripta: I don’t have a strong financial background but my parents have done everything they could to raise and educate me. They are my support system who have given me enough freedom to make decisions. They have constantly motivated me to believe in myself.
Buddy4study: How did you come to know about the L’Oreal 2018 scholarship? What were the steps followed to avail the scholarship?

After a certain period of time, I underwent a telephonic interview. After that, I got selected for the final interview. A few weeks later, I was informed that I have been selected for this scholarship.

I have also thought to take up doctoral studies after post-graduation. Moreover, I would like to contribute towards the betterment of our nation and civil services could be a good option for me. I have already started preparing for UPSC exam which could help me fetch a highly reputable government job. I am courageous and have full confidence to tackle all sorts of financial and educational challenges.
Buddy4study: Any piece of advice that you would like to impart to other potential aspirants like you who are constraint by various challenges towards pursuing higher education.
