New Delhi, 6 December 2021 – The Punjab Government has extended the deadline to apply for the post-matric scholarships for scheduled caste (SC) and backward class (BC) students. Previously, the last date to apply for Punjab post-matric scholarship was 30 November 2021. However, under the direction of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister of Punjab, Dr. Raj Kumar Verka, the deadline has been extended to 20th December 2021. Students of Punjab, who are still interested to apply for this scholarship can do so by visiting the official scholarship portal – http://www.scholarships.punjab.gov.in/.
As per the details shared by the spokesperson of the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, the decision of extending the date of scholarship registration has been taken keeping in view the interests of the student. They do not want any student to miss the opportunity of availing scholarship due to a shortage of time.
Furthermore, the Punjab government has also announced a new scholarship scheme, which will provide free education to students who will score more than 90% in Class 12.
Punjab Government Launches CM Scholarship Scheme for General Category Students
On Wednesday, the Punjab state authorities launched the “Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme 2021“ for the students wanting to pursue higher education. The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, accorded the approval of this brand-new initiative to supply cheaper and high-quality schooling to government college students.
As per the State authorities, this scholarship scheme will help brilliant students from economically poor background, especially those from general categories, to study ahead with minimal to no-fee payment. Besides, this scheme is expected to improve the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in government colleges, which, at present, is extremely low.
The annual monetary implication for this scholarship is estimated to be INR 36.05 crores. The main aim of the authorities is to satisfy the promise of cheaper and high-quality schooling for poor students via the Mukhyamantri Scholarship Yojana.
Who can avail the Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme 2021?
A statement issued from the State Government also highlighted that the scheme shall apply only to the students studying in government colleges.
What is the Punjab CM Scholarship Amount?
The Punjab CM scholarship amount shall be equal and limited to the concession in terms of the percentage in the fee being charged by the universities. So, the fee concession will be based on the percentage of marks scored by students.
- Students scoring above 60% but less than 70% marks shall get a concession equal to 70% of the college fee
- Students scoring between 70% and 80% marks shall get a concession of 80% of the college fee
- Students scoring between 80% and 90% marks shall get a concession of 90% of the college fee
- Students scoring above 90% marks shall be exempted from paying any fee, i.e., free education
What are the conditions associated with the Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme 2021?
The Punjab government stated that this scholarship scheme cannot be availed along with another scholarship. But, if a student receives a scholarship from any other scheme of the State or Central government, where the scholarship amount is bigger than the CM Scholarship allowance, the student will get the difference between the two scholarships (balance amount).
