PM Internship Scheme 2024: The Government of India, under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has introduced the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme to bridge the gap between academia and industry. This ambitious initiative aims to provide one crore young Indians with invaluable internship opportunities in the top 500 companies over the next five years.
The scheme’s primary objective is to expose young talent to real-world business environments, nurturing their skills and preparing them for future careers. Through this 12-month internship program, participants will gain hands-on experience in various professions and industries.
To kickstart this transformative initiative, a pilot project is being launched in FY 2024-25, targeting 1.25 lakh internship opportunities. Top companies, selected based on their CSR expenditure, will voluntarily participate in this program.
The scheme differs from all existing skill development, apprenticeship, internship, and student training programs implemented across India’s States and Union Territories. It will operate independently of all such initiatives of the Centre and States. This article will shed light on the details related to the eligibility criteria, benefits, and how to apply for the PM Internship Scheme.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: Shortlisting and Selection Process
A pool of eligible candidates will be shortlisted for each internship opportunity through the PMIS Portal. The shortlisting process will prioritise candidates from diverse backgrounds, including Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). This approach aims to promote social inclusivity and ensure broad representation.
The shortlisting criteria will be based on the factors such as the candidate’s preferences, the company’s requirements, and their potential to benefit from the internship. To ensure a fair and transparent process, approximately twice or thrice the number of required candidates, along with their CV, will be forwarded to the company for final selection.
The companies will have the autonomy to select interns based on their specific criteria and selection processes. Once a candidate receives an internship offer from a company, they can accept it through the PMIS Portal.
Important Note: It is crucial to understand that an internship offer does not establish a formal employer-employee relationship between the intern, the Ministry, or the company. Furthermore, an internship offer does not guarantee future employment with the company or the Ministry. |
