PM Internship Scheme 2026-27: Eligibility Criteria
Interested applicants are required to fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply for the PM Internship Scheme.
1. The applicant must be an Indian citizen between 21 and 24 years of age (as on the last date of the submission of application).
2. The applicant must not be pursuing full-time education or employed full-time.
3. Candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programs are eligible to apply for this scheme.
4. The annual family income of the candidate must not exceed ₹8,00,000 from all sources.
5. Eligible candidates must have completed at least one of the following –
- High School
- Higher Secondary School
- ITI Certificate Program
- Diploma from a Polytechnic Institute
- Undergraduation degree (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.)
PM Internship Scheme 2026-27: Conditions for Ineligibility
The following applicants are not eligible for the PM internship scheme:
1. Graduates from specific institutions, including IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, and IIITs.
2. Individuals holding professional qualifications like CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any master’s or higher degree.
3. Applicants should not be enrolled in any ongoing skill development, apprenticeship, internship, or student training program offered by the Central or State Government.
4. Those who have completed apprenticeships or training under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
5. Candidates with annual family income more than ₹8,00,000 from all sources.
6. Applicants with a family member holding a permanent/regular government position.
PM Internship Scheme 2026-27: How to Apply?
Before applying for any internship, a user needs to register and create their profile on the PMIS Portal. Here are the steps that a first time user needs to follow for registering and creating their profile:

Step 1 – Visit pminternship.mca.gov.in.
Step 2 – Click on the ‘Youth Registration’ tab on the homepage.
Step 3 – Next, enter your mobile number, confirm the checkbox and click on ‘Submit’.
Step 4 – Next, you will receive an OTP. Submit the OTP that you have received to move to the next step.
Step 5 – After successfully verifying your OTP, you will have to create a new password and click on ‘Submit’.
Step 6 – Once you’ve submitted your password, you will be redirected to your candidate profile.
Step 7 – Next, you will have to complete your e-KYC, fill in Personal details, Contact details, Education details, Bank details, and save your Skills & Certification details in order to complete your profile.
Step 8 – Once you are done with entering all of the aforementioned details, you will be able to apply for the internships.
PM Internship Scheme Application Process 2026-27
Step 1 – Go to the ‘Internship Opportunity’ section to view all of the internship opportunities that are currently available to you.
Step 2 – Each internship opportunity listed there will have the options’ ‘View’ and ‘Apply’ to view the internship opportunity and apply for the same, respectively.
Step 3 – Click on ‘View’ option if you wish to know the internship title, sector, area/field, number of opportunities, candidates already applied, internship description, location details, qualifications required and additional benefits (if applicable).
Step 4 – Else, click on the ‘Apply’ option. After clicking on the Apply button, you will get a pop-up with the question “Are you sure you want to apply for this internship”.
Step 5 – Next, you must answer the 3 questions that appear in the pop-up window. Only after answering these questions, you are allowed to submit the application.
PM Internship Scheme 2026-27: Benefits
The selected candidates will receive the following support and benefits under the PM Internship Scheme.
1. Monthly Stipend – The interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹9,000 for the entire duration of the internship program. The stipend will be disbursed by the government through DBT.
2. One-Time Grant: Upon joining the internship, a one-time grant of ₹6,000 will be provided to each intern by the government through DBT.
3. Training Costs: The company will bear the costs associated with training interns.
4. Administrative Costs: The companies can allocate up to 5% of their CSR expenditure incurred under the scheme towards administrative costs, as per the Companies (CSR Policy) Rules, 2014.
5. Insurance Coverage:
- All interns will be covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
- Hiring companies may also provide additional accidental insurance coverage to interns.

PM Internship Scheme 2026-27: How to Download the Certificate?
After completion of the internship, interns move to ‘Internship Completed List’, and the internal system immediately triggers the certificate generation process. Following are the steps that you need to follow in order to download the issued certificate –
Step 1 – Login to the PMIS portal using your intern credentials.
Step 2 – Navigate to the ‘My Internship’ section.
Step 3 – Go to the ‘Internship Certificate’ tab. This tab only becomes accessible once certificate issuance is approved by the company.
Step 4 – Click on the ‘Internship Completed’ tab and fill out the survey form.
Step 5 – After survey submission, click on the ‘Download Certificate’ tab. A QR-secured PDF Certificate of Internship will download automatically.

What kind of companies will I get to intern with by enrolling into the PMIS?
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to intern with the top companies from across India. Interning with these industry-leading companies will allow you to gain valuable experience, acquire new skills, and build important professional networks.
Will I be sitting in a classroom during my PMIS internship?
At least half of the internship period (6 months) must be spent in the actual working experience or job environment, and not in the classroom. While a certain part of the internship will include relevant training, a significant duration (at least 6 months) of your internship will focus on real-world experience in professional setups.
Can international candidates apply for the PM Internship Scheme?
No, international candidates are not eligible to apply for the PM Internship Scheme. This scheme is only open for Indian nationals who are not enrolled in a full-time degree programme or a full-time job.
Is there any provision for reservation to promote diversity and inclusion?
While the PM Internship Scheme does not have formal reservation provisions, the portal is designed to promote diversity. The scheme ensures fair representation of all segments of the population, including SCs, STs, OBCs, and PwDs.
Is there a guarantee of employment after completing the internship?
No, the PMIS does not guarantee employment after completing the internship. However, companies may choose to offer employment to interns who demonstrate exceptional performance during their tenure. It is important to note that an internship offer does not create any contractual or legal employer-employee relationship between the Ministry, the company, and the intern.
