The National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) exam 2025 application process is expected to start from September 5, and the head of the school can register eligible students by September 20, till midnight (tentative). The head of the school will get an extra day to make the online payment for the NRTS exam after the registration window closes. The National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) is managed by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha. What is NRTS?

The National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) is intended for students who have gained admission to Class 9 in a school which follows the syllabus of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. The NRTS exam will cover Modern Indian Language (MIL), Mathematics, General Science, and Social Science based on the Class 8 syllabus. It will be a composite paper with four sections, each carrying 25 marks, totalling 100 marks. Students who secure a place on the merit list will be awarded a monthly scholarship to support their education from Class 9 to Class 10

NRTS Exam Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must have passed Class 8 and be enrolled in Class 9.
  • Candidates must have a “No Objection Certificate” from their schools. 
  • The student’s school must be recognised by the Odisha government.
  • This scholarship is only available to students from schools that follow the syllabus of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.
  • The students will produce a declaration from the parents regarding the caste as SC/ ST/ SEBC.
  • Additionally, only SEBC category students need to provide income proof that shows their annual income does not exceed ₹1.5 lakh.

National Rural Talent Scholarship Exam Benefits

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, releases a merit list after conducting the National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) Exam. Students who are included in the merit list will be awarded a monthly scholarship for a period of 24 months. 

It is important to note that the scholarship amount will be disbursed directly to students via electronic transfer to their bank accounts. After the announcement of results and issuance of the award memo, selected students will be required to open a joint bank account (in the name of the student and one parent) and submit the account details to the District Education Officer. NRTS Application Process 2025

Career Assessment Test

The application process for the NRTS Exam 2025 is entirely online and only the head of a school is authorized to register students for the exam. There is no upper limit to the number of students a school head can register; however, a fee of ₹60 per student must be paid. To understand the procedure, please refer to the steps provided below.  

  1. Heads of institutes must visit the official website of BSE Odisha: bseodisha.ac.in.
  2. Authorities must then click on ‘Application for the National Rural Talent Scholarship Examination 2025′.application-for-the-national-rural
  3. A new window will open, authorities must then fill in the respective school code as user ID and password.respective-school-code-as-user-id
  4. Then the location of the school and name of the location will be automatically displayed on the screen.
  5. Now the head of the institution will register all the candidates who are interested in the exam. 
  6. On the next screen the head of the institution needs to complete the payment. The amount that needs to be paid will depend on the number of students that they registered.
  7. Once the payment is done the next page will open where the option to download the Descriptive Roll Sheet of the Registered candidates will appear.

NRTS Selection Process 2025

The selection process for the scholarship following the NRTS exam involves multiple steps. The process is explained in simple terms below for your reference.

The Board of Secondary Education (B.S.E.), Odisha will declare the scholarship examination results and share the merit list with the respective District Education Officers (DEOs).

Verification and Selection
The District Education Officer will prepare the final list of selected students for each district, based on the merit list provided by B.S.E., Odisha. The DEO will verify the accuracy of the data before finalizing the list.
