IMU Admission 2026 – Eligibility Criteria

For the IMU admission 2026 cycle, the Indian Maritime University has defined clear IMU eligibility criteria for undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. Candidates must ensure that they meet the required academic qualifications, minimum marks, age limits and DGS medical standards before filling the IMU application form.

IMU UG Admission Eligibility Criteria (DNS, B.Sc NS, B.Tech)

1. Candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).

2. Candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the English subject in the Class 10 or Class 12 examination.

3. Candidates must hold a valid IMU-CET rank and must be unmarried for seagoing programmes.

4. Maximum age for male candidates is 25 years (General), 28 years (OBC-NCL) and 30 years (SC/ST); female candidates get two additional years in each category, reckoned as on August 1, 2026.

5. Candidates for DNS, B.Sc (NS), B.Tech (ME) and PGDME must meet the medical and eyesight standards prescribed under the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, certified by DGS-approved doctors.

6. SC/ST candidates are given a 5% relaxation in PCM eligibility marks; this relaxation does not apply to English marks. Lateral entry into the 2nd year is available for relevant diploma holders.

IMU BBA Admission Eligibility Criteria

1. Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent in any stream with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and 50% marks in English in Class 10 or 12.

2. No entrance test is required; admission is on merit based on the aggregate of Class 12 marks.

IMU PG Admission Eligibility Criteria

1. M.Tech programmes require a BE/B.Tech in a relevant discipline (Marine/Mechanical/Civil/Naval Architecture, as applicable) with at least 55% aggregate marks, along with a valid IMU-CET rank or GATE/CUET (PG)/PGCET score.

2. MBA programmes require a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and 50% marks in English in Class 10/12/UG, with a valid IMU-CET rank or CAT/MAT/CMAT score.

3. PGDME requires a BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering with at least 50% marks in the final year; admission is based on merit of UG marks through a separate notification by IMU Mumbai Port Campus.

4. There is no age restriction for most PG programmes (PGDME has prescribed age limits); all candidates must submit a physical fitness certificate.

IMU Research Admission Eligibility Criteria

1. For Ph.D, Integrated Ph.D and M.S (By Research), a separate offline exam and interview are conducted, notified separately on the IMU website.

1. The annual fee includes the non-refundable Programme Fee of ₹30,000. 

2. A refundable Caution Deposit of ₹30,000 is payable at the time of certificate verification.

3. Outstation students of non-residential programmes may avail hostel accommodation at ₹70,000 per annum, subject to availability. 

4. GATE-qualified candidates admitted to M.Tech (Environmental Engineering) receive a monthly stipend of ₹12,400, and BBA (Maritime Logistics) student-apprentices receive a minimum monthly stipend of ₹7,000 during the apprenticeship year.

Step 1 – Visit the official website of the Indian Maritime University at www.imu.edu.in and open the IMU-CET 2026 registration portal link (separate portals exist for UG/PG Technical programmes and for BBA).
