New Delhi, 19 October 2021: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is inviting students to apply for the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for college and university students (CSSS) through scholarships.gov.in. Students who are already beneficiaries under this scheme can also apply for a scholarship renewal. The last date for submission of online application forms of both fresh scholarship and renewal is November 30, 2021.
The CSSS higher education scholarship scheme has been implemented by the Department of Higher Education since 2008 with the objective of providing financial assistance to meritorious students to help them bear the day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
Note: New applications shall only be accepted from students of following state and central school boards: Assam, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Nagaland, Telangana, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Punjab, Tripura Meghalaya, Kerala and Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. Applicants from other states will be required to wait for some time.

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship: Award Details
- The amount of CSSS scholarship is Rs. 10,000 per year for students enrolled in graduation courses for first three years of college/university courses and Rs. 20,000 per year at postgraduate level.
- Students pursuing technical courses are paid Rs. 20,000 per annum in the 4th and 5th year.
- Applicants have to apply for renewal of scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal every subsequent year.
- Students pursuing B.Tech/BE are entitled to receive 4 installments of scholarship, i.e., Rs. 10,000 per annum for the first three years and Rs. 20,000 per annum in the 4th year.
What Documents Are Required To Apply For CSSS Scholarship?
Students applying for CSSS will be required to keep the following documents and details ready for the institutions to verify it:
- Bank details
- Aadhaar card number
- Parental income certificate
- Valid mobile number
- E-mail ID
- Caste certificate (if required)
- Disability certificate (if required)
What is the Eligibility Criteria Required For CSSS Scholarship?
Students can apply for the CSSS scholarship after meeting the following eligibility criteria set by the authorities:
- Students must have scored above 80th percentile in the relevant stream.
- They should have passed Class 12 from a particular board of examination.
- Students should be pursuing a regular course. (not correspondence or distance mode)
- Family income of the applicant should be less than Rs. 8 lakh per annum.
- Applicants must not be receiving any other scholarship and fee reimbursement of any kind.
- Diploma students are not eligible to avail benefit under this scheme.
Note: All candidates are advised to apply online within the stipulated time and get their online applications verified by the institutions; else the application would be treated as invalid. The Institute verification for application will be open till December 15, 2021.
