Top Scholarships for Students with Disabilities: Eligibility, Benefits & More!

Scholarships for Students with Disabilities: Scholarships for promoting education play a pivotal role in the socio-economic empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. The Directive Principles of State Policy in the Constitution of India and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 have underscored the role of the State in the realisation of the Right to Education for Persons with Disabilities. Article 41 of the Constitution provides for the State to make effective provisions for the following:

Scholarship Registration and Login

  • Securing the right to work
  • Right to education
  • Right to public assistance in the case of unemployment
  • Right to public assistance for old age, sickness and disablement
  • Right to public assistance in other cases of undeserved want

Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD) in this regard specifically mentions that the appropriate Government and local authorities shall ensure that every child with benchmark disability has access to free education in an appropriate environment till he attains the age of eighteen years. Catering to this objective, both public and private organisations have initiated merit-based as well as need-based scholarship programmes to ensure that financial limitations do not hinder differently-abled students from pursuing their academic aspirations. The RPwD Act also states that “Notwithstanding anything contained in the Rights of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, every child with benchmark disability between the age of six to eighteen years shall have the right to free education in a neighborhood school, or in a special school, of his choice”.

The basic objective of this article is to serve as a comprehensive guide for a generation of awareness on top scholarship programmes for students faced with disabilities in India. It covers essential details such as eligibility criteria, benefits, application timelines, provider, and other vitally relevant information.
