President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday asked the universities across the country to focus on the kind of education that can create job providers and not job seekers.
“Universities should focus on the kind of education that creates job providers and not job seekers,” President Kovind said, adding, “Education must mould students’ attitude and behaviour to help in nation building.”
While addressing the 27th convocation of Dr Harisingh Gour University in Madhya Pradesh, the President said education was not merely a mechanism to gain knowledge and employment.
“Education also makes a person self-reliant and enhances the individual’s capacities. This helps an educated person in creating opportunities for others,” he added.
The President also urged the students to take advantage of various government schemes which are launched to create better self-employment.
He also appreciated the rising dominance of daughters in the country as a positive social change, saying the dominance of daughters in the country has started rising and it is now becoming the order of the day to brighten the country’s future.
“Due to this social change, people have started saying in jest that the reservation being provided to women for their empowerment would prove to be pointless in the times to come, and now boys might start demanding quota for themselves,” he added.
The President gave away medals to meritorious students on the occasion.
“Out of the 53 students who were given medals today, the number of girls was more than the boys. A total of 32 girls got medals. Also out of 11 students who were given degrees (on stage), 10 were girl students,” he said.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister of State for HRD Satyapal Singh were also present at the event.
