New Delhi, 02 April 2022: The Tribal Affairs Department of Jammu & Kashmir has disbursed scholarships worth Rs. 31.12 crore to tribal students of the state this year. This initiative has been aimed at the welfare of the tribal population residing in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The state government has taken the necessary steps to strengthen the support for education given to tribal students. The Tribal Affairs Department has also allocated a budget of Rs. 45 Crore for scholarships during the financial year of 2022-23. This budget is aimed at encouraging the primary education of tribal students of Class 1 to Class 8 residing in rural areas.
Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary, Secretary of Tribal Affairs (J&K), has noted that the education of tribal students is the top priority for the J&K government. Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of J&K, has directed the highest-ever disbursement of scholarships amounting to Rs. 31 Crore in order to support the educational needs of tribal students pursuing courses at postgraduate level, graduate levels, pre-matric, and post-matric levels.

Scholarship Allocation
The Scholarship amount has already been credited to the bank accounts of tribal students via The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) mode. A total number of 12,580 students have received the scholarship amount under the post-matric scholarship scheme worth Rs. 15.40 Crore, whereas about Rs. 13.50 Crore were disbursed to tribal students studying in Class 1 to Class 8 under the pre-matric scholarship scheme. Plus, a scholarship worth Rs. 2.22 Crore has been disbursed to bank accounts of 7420 tribal students studying in Class 9 to Class 10.
Under the post-matric scholarship scheme of Rs. 15.40 crore, about 12,580 tribal students enrolled under various professional courses groups are categorised as follows:

The Tribal Affairs Department of Jammu and Kashmir is also working on reforming the entire process of scholarship disbursement by introducing The Public Financial Management System (PFMS). The department will also focus on special scholarships catering to over 32,000 tribal students of seasonal educational centres of transhumant semi-nomadic families in order to encourage them and their inclusion in this flagship initiative to improve the quality of education.
