One of the world’s greatest football players, Pele, once stated – “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” Just as Pele lived by these words on the football field, for Nishiket Dharmik, it was the field of academics that became his calling. Throughout his academic life, Nishiket has been dedicated to his studies and has never compromised on the value of hard-work. It is this perseverance that led him to the PNB Housing Finance Limited Protsahan Scholarship.
The scholarship gave him the much-needed support to overcome his financial constraints and pursue higher education in his field of choice. To inspire students who may be in a similar situation as he found himself in, Nishiket shared his experience with our team in an interview. Below are a few excerpts from the same:
Buddy4Study: Tell us a little bit about your academic and professional journey up till now.
Nishiket: I have always performed well academically from my school days. Mathematics & Science are subjects that were always of interest to me, which motivated me to pursue Engineering as well. I was a topper in school and continued with the same vigour for studies in my college as well. It has been my firm belief that the only way to become successful is through hard-work. As they say, there are no shortcuts to success!
Buddy4Study: What motivated you to pursue an education in Marketing/Finance?
Nishiket: I always had a dream of starting my own venture, after gaining a few years of work-experience. A prerequisite for entrepreneurship, I believe, is to analyse the various market parameters. This is what motivated me to take marketing as my specialization and enrolling for a PGDM Degree in Marketing from IMT Nagpur. Additionally, I have a creative approach to most tasks, and the fact that the field of marketing demands the same in present times works to my advantage.
Buddy4Study: What have been the key challenges for you in your journey?
Nishiket: Coming from a lower middle class background, paying the fees for school and college was always a tough ask. The cost of education has been steadily increasing at a high rate, making it difficult for lower middle class families to provide a high class education to their children. There was also considerable pressure from people around me to take up a job post my graduation, when I wanted to pursue further studies. But as the popular adage goes, “Where there is Will, there is a Way”. Hence, I continued my hard-work & performed well throughout.
Buddy4Study: Who has been your biggest source of inspiration?
Nishiket: One of the biggest sources of inspiration for me has been Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The way he dealt with people in his own life holds an important message for the younger generation. The second major source of inspiration for me is my Mother, for the way she managed the family in adverse situations. My mother is a working woman, and her ability to manage everything so smoothly, both at the work-front and at home, with a calm and cool head, has always inspired me.
Buddy4Study: What role has your family played in your education?
Nishiket: My family have always played a crucial role in my education. They have supported each and every one of my endeavours wholeheartedly. Family support, in fact, is of utmost importance for anyone to be successful in life, and I have been extremely lucky to get that from my family.
Buddy4Study: How did you learn about the PNB Housing Finance Limited Protsahan Scholarship? What steps did you follow to apply for this scholarship?
Nishiket: Here, I would like to thankBuddy4Study, which is a wonderful platform for all students, especially those struggling with financial constraints in their pursuit of education. It was through a seminar conducted at IMT Nagpur by Buddy4Study that I learnt about the PNB Housing Finance Protsahan Scholarship. From there, it was as easy as registering on the platform and completing the application online. I was fortunate enough to be shortlisted for the scholarship.
Buddy4Study: How do you plan to use the scholarship amount?
Nishiket: The fees for my PGDM Marketing course is quite substantial, for which I had to take a study loan as well. The scholarship amount, thus, would be fully utilized for paying my course fees and other education expenses.
Buddy4Study: What future goals have you set for yourself?
Nishiket: In the short term, my goal is to get a good offer in the advertisement or media industry where I wish to start my career. Considering my creative outlook, the industry suits my interests, which would ensure I can maintain a high level of motivation and dedication towards my work.
My long terms goal is to start my own advertisement agency after gaining work experience for around 7-8 years in this industry to ease my efforts when I start my own venture.
Buddy4Study: What are your thoughts on contributing to the society, especially in the field of education?
Nishiket: I would really like to contribute towards the education of each and every child in our society, in any manner whatsoever. Especially those students who are good at studies but are not able to continue their education due to of lack of financial support.
Buddy4Study: Lastly, is there any piece of advice you wish to pass on to those who may be looking to follow in your footsteps?
Nishiket: I am a firm believer in the power of education. Hence, it is my suggestion to every young student to get a proper education so that you can contribute to the society as well as the country. Education and hard-work are integral to success, not only for the individual, but for the entire country.
