VAIBHAV Fellowship 2024 is an opportunity offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, for Indian Ph.D., M.D., and M.S. degree holders. The fellowship aims to strengthen the research ecosystem of India's Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and Scientific Institutions. Selected candidates will receive an annual fellowship of ₹4,00,000 along with other benefits.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- be a Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Person of Indian Origin (PIO), or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) currently working abroad
- hold a Ph.D./M.D./M.S./M.Tech degree from a recognised university
- be engaged in active research
- have worked/be working in a university/institute (in regular/tenure employment) for at least five years or more OR
- have experience working in a reputable industry or research laboratory abroad for at least five years, but should not be a Ph.D. or postdoctoral fellow
Benefits Selected candidates will receive the following benefits:
Financial Support:
- A fellowship in ₹4,00,000 for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of up to 2 months per year for a period of a maximum of 3 years
- An annual contingency ₹1,00,000 for research expenditure in India
Travel Support:
- International travel from place of work in parent institute to place of work in India in business class once a year.
- Domestic travel (economy class) for academic purposes up to two Indian academic/scientific institutes in a year.
Accommodation:
- Fully furnished accommodation in the guest house or hotel up to ₹7,500 per day
Institutional Financial Support:
The VAIBHAV program provides annual financial support of up to ₹5,00,000 for 3 years to the host institution to facilitate the VAIBHAV fellow's research work as per DST norms. This funding covers the following allowable expenses:
- Consumables and accessories
- Contingency
- Institutional overhead
Documents - Biodata of VAIBHAV Fellow (07 pages max) (format attached as Annexure-I)
- Copy of highest qualification certificate
- Copy of passport
- Copy of OCI/PIO Card/Work Visa (if applicable)
- List of recent publications of VAIBHAV Fellow (last three years) with impact factor
- Undertaking by the Applicant and the host in the prescribed format (format attached as Annexure-II)
- Consent Letter/No-Objection letter/Forwarding letter from Indian Host Institution (on letterhead expressing consent to allow the applicant’s research work in his institution) (format attached as Annexure-III)
- Consent Letter/No-Objection letter/Forwarding letter from VAIBHAV fellow’s Institute/University/Company (format attached as Annexure-IV)
- Bio-data of the Host Scientist along with a list of publications of the last three years including the impact factor (format is same as Annexure-I)
- Conflict of Interest (to be given by the Host Scientist in prescribed format) (format attached as Annexure-V)
How can you apply? Eligible candidates can apply for the opportunity by following the steps mentioned below:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
Step 2: Click the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID.)
Step 3: Navigate to the 'How to apply' and click on the given link.
Step 4: Now, navigate to the 'Apply for Proposal' on the right-hand side of the dashboard.
Step 5: Navigate to the 'New PI Registration' button and click on it.
Step 6: Fill in the required details and submit to 'Register'.
Step 7: After successful registration, login using valid credentials.
Step 8: Fill in the relevant details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Application Deadline: 31st March 2024
Selection Criteria
The review process below will be followed for the evaluation of the applications:
- All applications will be handled with the strictest confidentiality.
- A Review Committee composed of representatives from Indian government departments and independent external reviewers will evaluate the proposals.
- After thoroughly examining the applications, DST will invite shortlisted applicants to present their proposed work online as part of the review process. (Note: Proposals must receive a positive rating to be considered for funding.)
Note:- The review committee will prioritise applicants within each designated research area. The final decision rests with the Government based on the recommendation of the VAIBHAV Apex Committee.

Terms and Conditions
- Multiple applications from the same Host/Applicant will be rejected.
- One Host/Applicant can submit only one application.
- If an applicant cannot submit the proposal on time, DST will not accept the project offline.
- Requests to extend the deadline will also not be considered.
- Applications without a consent letter from the Head of Institute for both the Host and Applicant will be disqualified.
- No calls/emails will be entertained 72 hrs before the closing of the call.
