MEA Scholarship 2018 invites applications from the 1st-year undergraduate students of engineering/ technology/ computer science/ architecture/ naval architecture studying in a recognised engineering college or university in India. The scholarship offers financial assistance to meritorious and needy students of Kerala origin.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility - Applicant must be of Kerala origin.
- Applicant must be a 1st-year student pursuing a 4-year or 5-year course in 2018 leading to a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Architecture or Naval Architecture from an accredited engineering college or university in India.
- The annual family income must not exceed INR 1.5 Lakh.
- The candidate must have appeared for Kerala State level entrance examination (KEAM) and ranked lower than 5000 (1 to 5000).
- B.Arch. students must have scored greater than 110 in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA).
- Applicant must have scored 85% marks or above in class 10 and 12 exams.
- The students pursuing a degree through lateral entry are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
- 2nd, 3rd or 4th year engineering students are not eligible to apply.
Benefits Each selected student will receive a scholarship amount of USD 600 per annum.
Documents - Completed 'Detailed Scholarship Application Form'
- Completed recommendation letter
- Marksheet of class 10 and 12 exams (attested by the Principal/Head of the Department of the Engineering College where the student is currently enrolled)
- Marksheet & rank certificate of Govt. of Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination
- Income certificate issued by Tahsildar / Village Officer
- A statement explaining the type of work, labour, agriculture, or business, if the applicant's parents or guardians are daily wage workers or laborers or engaged in agriculture, trade or business
- Extracurricular details
- An essay describing any financial difficulty or special circumstances that merit special consideration during evaluation of the application form
- A statement with details about scholarships, grants and non-repayable financial awards that the applicant may be receiving from sources other than MEA Houston (statement must contain amounts, duration of payment, source’s name and the basis of the award)
How can you apply? Eligible candidates can apply online by following the steps given below:

Step 2: Now, click here to download the 'Detailed Scholarship Application Form'.
Step 3: Fill the form electronically or manually.
Step 4: Now, click here to download the 'Recommendation Letter' and have it authorised by the Principal/ Headmaster/ teacher of the school where the applicant completed class 10 or 12.
Step 5: Now, send the attested and scanned copies of completed 'Detailed Scholarship Application Form', Recommendation Letter and other supporting documents at meahouston.2018scholarship@gmail.com with the subject line 'MEA 2018 Scholarship application –“Applicant’s Name”'
Important Dates
Last date to submit the application: 15 October 2018
Evaluation of shortlisted candidates: November - December 2018
Award of scholarship: Before 31 March 2019
Selection Criteria
Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the submitted application forms. Further background evaluation of the shortlisted students will be done during November - December 2018. A MEA member or representative will visit the shortlisted student’s family for the background check. Based on this evaluation candidates will be selected for the scholarship.

Terms and Conditions
- All the supporting documents and application must be submitted in PDF format.
- The documents to be sent through the mail must have file names that include the document description and the applicant’s full name. For example: Detailed Application Form-Applicant’s full name
- Applications with incomplete or incorrect information will be rejected.
- Students selected for the scholarship must submit a photograph and a signed affidavit affirming that they understood the terms and conditions under which MEA Houston scholarships are awarded and renewed.
- Applicants must keep a record of all the documents submitted to MEA for future reference.
- The recipients of the scholarship must have a bank account of their own and they should provide the account number to MEA for scholarship disbursal, which they will receive either by cheque or wire transfer.
Conditions for renewal of scholarship:
- Applicant must secure GPA ≥ 7.0 or equivalent in the all the semester exams.
- Applicant must submit the certified copies of semester exam marksheets as soon as they become available to show proof of securing GPA ≥ 7.0.
- B.Arch. students applying for renewal of scholarship must score at least GPA ≥ 6.5.
